Ethics, Spirituality, and Social Justice in Administrative Practice

This course explores ethical models and practice of educational administrators. Participants will develop personal and professional codes of ethics; define concepts of care, spirituality, democracy, equity, diversity, and social justice; and explain how those concepts relate to students’ academic and social success. Case studies offer opportunities to consider and evaluate moral and legal consequences of decision-making. Participants will develop their own vision of leadership.

Dissertation Seminar

This seminar is designed as a semi-structured working group to assist students in various stages of the dissertation process, although emphasis is placed squarely on development of the first three dissertation chapters.

Introduction to Educational Research

The purpose of this course is for future administrators to understand quantitative and qualitative research as consumers of research; to use data for school improvement; to understand models for educational program planning and evaluation; and to use action research.

School Systems as Learning Cultures

This course builds on Ed Admin 541, Principles of Educational Leadership, to explore more fully how a leader can establish a vision for equitable and excellent learning. It provides historical, practical and theoretical perspectives on the culture and systems of schools, particularly in an age of accountability.
