Joanne M. Marshall is an assistant professor in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies department at Iowa State University. She teaches courses in the educational administration and research and evaluation program areas.

Before joining higher education, Dr. Marshall taught high school English in Illinois, where she is certified in secondary English/language arts and as a K-12 school media specialist. She also holds endorsements in secondary social studies and Spanish.

She received her Ed.D. in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Marshall's research is driven by the question of how people's internal values and beliefs relate to their public school roles. That question leads her to research religion/spirituality and public education, the moral and ethical leadership of superintendents, educational philanthropy, and social justice pedagogy.

Most recently this interest in personal and professional has led her to edit a new series of books on work-life balance. The first book, Juggling Flaming Chainsaws: Faculty in Educational Leadership Try to Balance Work and Family, will be published by Information Age in 2012.
