The greater Fairbanks area offers many opportunities for the visitor to experience the days of yesteryear as well as see the modern facilities of space exploration. A walking tour of downtown will take the visitor past many historical sites as well as the Chena River, Alaska Public Lands Information Center, Yukon Quest Museum, and Golden Heart Park.

If you have a day, take a 120 mile trip to Denali National Park or 200 mile trip to the Arctic Circle. Half-day trips will allow the visitor to golf at the farthest north golf course, travel along the Alaska Highway, or bathe in one of Interior Alaska's hot springs.

The Fairbanks area has modern accommodations to meet any taste; as an alternative, try one of the many bed-and-breakfasts. Make your reservations early as June is a favorite time of year for tourists. The University of Alaska also has accommodations available for those attending the symposium. Fast food or more distinctive dining is found in the downtown area as well as in the outlying communities.

In June, extend your stay and take advantage of the nearly continuous sunlight by participating in the Nenana River Daze, attending the Midnight Sun Baseball Game, running in the Midnight Sun Marathon, or hearing the thrill of the Yukon 800 Marathon Riverboat Race.
