An "International Symposium on Physics, Chemistry, and Ecology of Seasonally Frozen Soils" will be held in Fairbanks, Alaska June 10-12, 1997. The symposium is jointly sponsored by the USDA Agricultural Research Service, the University of Alaska, and the Cold Regions Research & Engineering Laboratory of the US Army.
The symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas in the detection and prediction of physical and biological processes in seasonally frozen soils. Topics of specific interest are those related to the climatology, hydrology, physics, chemistry and biology of managed ecosystems in cold regions.
