AquacultureAquaculture has been also referred to as fish farming. However, aquaculture is much more than raising finfish. It also includes the culture of aquatic plants and invertebrates under a variety of culture conditions including ponds, raceways, cages, and indor recirculating systems. Indviduals interested in aquaculture should contact their state extension specialists for additional information. There is a vaiety of extension publications on aquaculture including initial considerations, specific species such as tilapiaand walleye fingerlings, as well as specific systems, e.g., recirculating. There are also several good extension sites that focus on aquaculture with the major one being AquaNIC, a web site supported by several agencies including USDA-CSREES, NOAA (Sea Grant).
