Aquaculture Research

My students have worked on projects ranging from the sunfish and walleye culture, aquature effluents, plankton and benthic insect populaton dynamics in culture ponds, and water quality. Study sites have consisted of both private operations as well as hatcheries operation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. My current project is to develope best management practices for channel catfish culture using the recently constructed ponds owned by Iowa State University, ISU-ARF, as well as the Rathbun Fish Hatchery. I currently have oneM.S. graduate student, Len Kring, working on an aquaculture project. Len is completing his last summer of work. Len's research is on the culture of channel catfish in both earthen and plastic-lined culture ponds.
