Weekly Update for January 21, 2007
Back to HPV Index
The team has worked on the HPV for two weekends so far.  During the first weekend, the old HPV was torn apart and usable parts were scavenged for the new HPV.  Steel tubing didn't arrive until January 15th, which preventing us from starting until after that date.  On Thursday January 18th, several members met in the shop for a few hours to practice welding and cutting the tubing material.  This helped to prepare for the actual construction and to give more team members fabrication experience.

Friday, January 19th, was the first day of construction on the new HPV.  The center frame section was built, which required a lot of welding and tube cutting.  Other tubing parts were also prepared for next week.

Frame/Structures:
Almost all of the raw material needed to build the main portion of the frame has arrived.  The center portion of the truss frame was built and is ready for additional parts to be welded on.  The tubing that will connect the front spindles to the main frame has been cut and notched, and will be fit to the frame next week.

Fairing:
Foam was glued together to create a sample nose cone.  This will be used to practice fiberglass laying techniques on complex shapes.

Drive Train:
The main drive components have arrived and are partially assembled.  The rear wheel will be ready by next weekend.  Recumbent bike seats have been ordered.
