This class will improve your ability to read texts critically; create academic texts with an awareness of audience, purpose, and context; and reflect on your work. This class will also improve the content and organization of your written and visual arguments, as well as your speaking skills. You will learn to support your ideas with material from a variety of sources and to understand and respond to persuasion. You will also increase your ability to analyze texts and to understand the choices authors make in order to communicate effectively with their audience.
This class will work on analysis and production
of, as well as reflection on written, oral, and visual discourse within academic
and civic contexts. It includes a variety of multi-media assignments, with
an emphasis on writing, and including entries in an electronic communication
