Arch434: Final project movie
1520 Red Oak Ct - A Short Animation
By: Jonathan Nelsen
Project Summary
The 1520 Red Oak Court Project was inspired by design ideas thought up during my time living in the home. One of the big focuses that I wanted to work with was the idea of indoor / outdoor living. Since the house already had a swimming pool, it provided a pre painted canvas to work with. The area around the pool is perfectly suited to provide living and entertaining areas. Two small decks along the back side of the home bridge the gap between outdoor swimming and dining, and indoor living. By creating a dining area outside, easily accessible to the kitchen, I am furthering this indoor / outdoor idea. Additional indoor outdoor opportunities are present with the rear porch accessible off the sun room, as well as the front porch from which you enter the home.
A pool house was added to the rear of the home to provide an escape from the environment within the home and to provide visitors with a place to gear up for a swim. The structure follows the design of the original home.
Several changes were made inside the home and revolve around the stairway. First and most noticeable, the walls surrounding the stairway were removed, allowing for visibility between the kitchen, and family room. Additionally, the basement door was moved from the top of the stairs to the bottom, opening up the space a little more and allowing for the upper stairway to be completely open.
As a first go at using 3d Studio Max, I feel that I was pretty successful at rendering the home in a semi accurate state. Being used to using Sketch-up for imaging assistance, it was a hard transition. I didn’t think I would ever understand the complexities of 3d Studio, but I feel I am well on my way to a better fundamental understanding of the software.
