J. David Hunger
Teaching Statement
Dr. Hunger retired as an emeritus professor from Iowa State University in May 2006. While at ISU, he taught courses in Strategic Management at the
undergraduate level and strategic planning at the graduate level as well as Entrepreneurship (Mgmt 310), and Introduction to Management
(Mgmt 370). Students remarked on his enthusiasm and interest in his topic.
He provided real world examples while lecturing - especially to large
classes. In smaller classes he used cases to generate discussion and
analysis of actual business situations.

Research Statement
Dr. Hunger is very interested in strategic planning and innovation. He
is known for his case research - He researches business firms and writes cases
about them for publication and for use in the classroom. He is known for
his cases on Maytag Corporation and Younkers Department Store. His book,
Strategic Management and Business
Policy, co-authored with Tom Wheelen, is now in its 12th edition.
In 1999, it won the McGuffy Award for excellence andlongevity from the Textbook
and Academic Authors Association. He is currently working on the 6th edition of Essentials
of Strategic Management.
