Communication with Instructor
Day to day communication: I have found
that written documentation is very important when trying to meet the needs
of my 52 students. Therefore, I have 2 methods of ensuring communication
runs smoothly.
E-mail: This is my preferred method of communication. You may use e-mail to contact me with notification of absence, concerns about your writing, requests for appointments. discussion of any issue raised in class, or to request documents and information. My e-mail address is xxx@iastate.edu. I will keep copies of your e-mail in your personal file in my home office as documentation against miscommunication.
Note: I am interested in setting up a class list so that a single e-mail be sent to all students in the class using a single address if you are capable of creating such a list, please contact me after class.
Written notes: You mail also request the above information by writing a note. However, I request that note writing be a temporary' method until you have learned to use e-mail. The drawback of written notes is their tendency to get lost among my many papers. I will keep a separate notebook labeled "Requests from Students." but my prior experience tells me this is no guarantee I can keep track of everything.
My above policies are not meant to suggest that
you can't chat with me after class or drop by my office unexpectedly. Of
course you can! I look forward to it. I simply want us to have a means
to keep track of the most important items.
