While growing up, my parents wanted me to become active in music and had me take lessons on the accordion at the age of seven. I participated in many local talent shows in Nebraska, playing the accordion and singing the songs as I was playing. I also sang in my church choirs over the years.

In 1973, a member of our choir introduced me to Barbershop singing and I have been involved in both chorus and quartet singing ever since. I joined my first quartet in 1977 (Woodshed Express) and we were together for 3 years, then in 1981, I joined another quartet (Rumbleseat Reunion). This quartet sang together for 15 years and we just happened to exhaust 4 bases in that time period. I had worked in Omaha for Northwestern Bell/US West for 30 years and in 1990, I retired at the ripe old age of 48. I then went into telecommunications Consulting and the travel involved put quite a strain on the quartet for participating in contest singing. In 1996, my consulting took us to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then in 1997, my wife Joyce and I moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. I joined my first Senior Quartet (Harmony Bound - 1998 CSD Senior Quartet Champion). We sang together until 2004 when my wife and I moved to Iowa to be closer to our 3 children's families (including 8 grandkids).

I was asked to join Catalyst in 2005 and sing baritone.  The new part is quite a challenge for me since I have been singing lead for the past 32 years. The quartet is making some wonderful sounds which I enjoy very much.
