Rewriting the Tales
You have the opportunity to rewrite
the Canterbury Tales with people from the present. Your job is to figure out who these
people are and where they will be going. You and your partner will write a new
prologue. In this prologue you will follow Chaucer's lead:
In your prologue you will include:
- Introduce the audience to 5 pilgrims. They can be from
any group. For example: the musician, the college student, the executive.
- You should include detailed descriptions about these
pilgrims - what they wear, what their jobs are, what their personalities
are like, etc. Make sure your audience knows who these people are.
- What pilgrimage will your pilgrims take? What
"site" will they be visiting? This site should also be something
from the present - something famous.
- Where do the pilgrims start their journey? Remember, in
the Canterbury Tales, the pilgrims met in an Inn. Pick a place
where your pilgrims could meet each other.
- A narrator that talks about the pilgrimage and about
the pilgrims.
Your prologue must be at least three
pages long, typed. Please do not go over five pages.
