April 2008

  • "Focus Grant Reunion Exhibit" This invitational exhibit will feature past grant reciepients to answer the question, "where are they now?" and celebrate the history of this valuable program, March 22-April 30.
  • "The Early Years: The Founding Farm and the College" This permanent collection exhibition focus is one the establishment of a model farm on a prairie, the first families of the new college and farm, and how this farm house was also the first campus library, business office and classroom for what came to be Iowa State University, through August 10, 2008.
  • "Morrill Act of July 2, 1862" This exhibition displays a series of parallel timelines that illustrate the correlation of the events and history that lead to the transformation and evolution of Iowa State, and the building of Morrill Hall and Christian Petersen, the nation's first permanent sculptor-in-residence at an American university, March 22-April 27, 2008.
  • "Treasures from the Archives: Celebrating 150 Years of Iowa State University," This rotating display will feature special documents and artifacts from Iowa State's history, April 21, 2007-December 31, 2008.
  • "Great Doctors, Great Care." A tour through the history of healthcare. Take a dimensional "tour" through the history of healthcare at Iowa State,Thomas B. Thielen Student Health Center, April 2007-April 2008.
  • "Chautauqua Celebration." College of Liberal Arts and Sciences activities during Veishea.
  • "ISU's 150th Birthday Celebration," Iowa State's birthday celebration at the state capitol will feature exhibits highlighting 150 years of university service to the state of Iowa and a reproduction of the legislative act that established the Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm (the forerunner of ISU), April 3, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • "Lessons from Two of the Nation's Largest Disasters, from Someone Who Was Involved in Both," Scott Hamilton, a 1982 management graduate of the College of Business at Iowa State University, was Vice President of Investor Relations at WorldCom when it spiraled into bankruptcy amid the country's largest accounting scandal and was a public information officer for the State of Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina, part of the Iowa State 150th Anniversary Alumni Lecture Series, April 10, 4 p.m.
  • "ISU sesquicentennial concluding ceremony," Iowa State's year-long sesquicentennial celebration concludes on central campus, following the Veishea parade. The short ceremony will include a talk by President Gregory Geoffroy, a salute recognizing military science's strong role in university history and the awarding of Iowa State's new "True and Valiant Award," central campus, April 12.
  • Second Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, undergraduate students at ISU have had a long tradition of engagement in research. The symposium recognizes the often significant contributions of undergraduates to a wide range of research efforts within all colleges across campus, April 15, 2008.
  • "Celebrating 150 Years of the Cyclone Experience," Join Tanya Zanish-Belcher, Head of Special Collections & University Archives at the ISU Library, as she describes her Department's Sesquicentennial projects, April 30, 2008.

  • ISU Extension at the KMAQ Farm and Home Show Jackson County Extension will help celebrate ISU's Sesquicentennial at the KMAQ Farm and Home Show. Their booth will showcase ISU and Extension programs, Jackson County Fairgrounds, Feb. 8 & 9.

  • "The Early Years: The Founding Farm and the College" This permanent collection exhibition focus is one the establishment of a model farm on a prairie, the first families of the new college and farm, and how this farm house was also the first campus library, business office and classroom for what came to be Iowa State University, through August 10, 2008.
  • "Passage: Albert Paley This exhibition will present a comprehensive overview of public, private, and institutional passageways by Albert Paley, through January 15, 2008.
  • "What's Your Legacy?" The Brunnier Art Museum's exhibition presents 150 important legacies from Iowa State University's art collection, and other museum and private collections. New portrait commissions will also be unveiled regularly throughout the exhibition, through December 17, 2007.
  • "Zodiac Garden." Inspired by the Zodiac Medallion, this garden will depict various signs of the zodiac, Reiman Gardens, May 30-October 15.
  • "Cyclone Garden." This garden will incorporate a unique variety of cardinal and gold flowers, Reiman Gardens, May 30-October 15, 2007.
  • "Spring Tulip Display." Over 20,000 tulip bulbs pay homage to the colors of Iowa State University, Reiman Gardens, May 30-October 15, 2007.
  • "Garden Railroad Display" This festive garden will feature a railroad theme traveling among several ISU landmarks, Reiman Gardens, Apr. 30-October 15, 2007.
  • "Treasures from the Archives: Celebrating 150 Years of Iowa State University," This rotating display will feature special documents and artifacts from Iowa State's history, April 21, 2007-December 31, 2008.
  • "Great Doctors, Great Care." A tour through the history of healthcare. Take a dimensional "tour" through the history of healthcare at Iowa State,Thomas B. Thielen Student Health Center, April 2007-April 2008.
  • "ISU Extension service projects." Each county extension office will host a service project, in recognition of ISU contributions to the county, April-September, 2007.
  • "Rose Festival." State rose show, featuring exhibits, ISU's own Buck roses and plant sales, Reiman Gardens, June 16.
  • "Elemental Science." Display highlighting the periodic table and its connection to both plants and metals, Reiman Gardens, June 25-September 9.
  • "Cy's Barnyard Bash," Alumni of all ages will enjoy an "evening in the country" with picnic food and music.

  • "ISU Day at the Cedar Rapids Kernels," The ISUAA Club of Linn County and the Linn County Extension office invite you to join them at the annual Alumni Baseball outing and the Sesquicentennial Service Project.

  • "Hamilton County River Clean-up," The ISUAA Club of Hamilton County is assisting in helping with the project by promoting and serving lunch to the volunteers at the conclusion of the event. This is a great opportunity for the Club to show their support to the Sesquicentennial Service Project, and the greater Iowa State Community in Hamilton County, Aug. 11.

  • "ArtSplash," a team of three College of Design students will complete in the first amateur sand-sculpting contest at ArtSplash, the annual arts festival in Sioux City. The sculpture will be a contemporary interpretation of Christian Petersen's "Ring of Life" or "Marriage Ring" sculpture fountain on campus, Sept. 1.

  • "Vegetable Oil: Changing Source of Food, Fuel and Chemicals" Thomas Binder, president of the ADM Research Division of Archer Daniel Midland Company, part of the Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series, September 19, 4 p.m.
  • "The Rise of the Creative Class," Richard Florida, the 2007 Dean Helen LeBaron Hilton Chair in Human Sciences, part of ISU Week, the Ames community's celebration of appreciation of Iowa State's 150th birthday, Sept. 19.
  • "At the Helm of Parks Library." Library Deans Warren Kuhn, Nancy Eaton and Olivia Madison will share their experiences as Dean of the ISU Library, 192 Parks Library, Sept. 20, 3:00 p.m.
  • "ISU College of Design at the Octagon Arts Festival," the ISU College of Design will host an exhibition highlighting the growth and evolution of its programs over 150 years, as well as exciting new developments that will help shape the college's future.
  • "The Yellow Rose of Suffrage." One-woman play, Fisher Theatre, Sept. 23.
  • "ExCYtement in the Garden." Floral display will highlight the history of Cy in a football setting, Reiman Gardens conservatory, Sept. 10-Nov. 18.
