Who's on Elwood Drive?

As we celebrate our 150th birthday this year, we salute the thousands of faculty, staff, alumni and friends whose leadership and achievements have helped Iowa State University become internationally respected. Names were submitted by college deans and university staff. These are just a few and we honor them on the university banners on Elwood Drive.

Helen LeBaron Hilton, Dean, College of Home Economics 1952-1975, national leader for families' and women's rights

Charles Harvey Brown, Dean of the Library 1922-1946, founder, Association of College and Research Libraries

George Washington Carver, ISU graduate and agriculture professor, invented over 100 uses for peanuts

Bruce Roth, ISU graduate, invented cholesterol-reducing drug Lipitor®

Charles Henry Stange, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine 1909-1936, most visionary veterinarian of all time

Henry A. Wallace, ISU graduate, U.S. Vice President, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture

Ann and Russ Gerdin, Chairman and CEO, Heartland Express, College of Business philanthropists

John Vincent Atanasoff, ISU graduate and mathematics and physics professor, invented the world's first electronic digital computer
