Dr. Niki Davis is known for her leadership of information technology in teacher education in Europe and the USA, provides overall leadership of this reading group. Her introductory section will lay the foundation for our web community with readings on distance learning and introductory perspectives on culture and English as an inter-cultural language. Dr Davis’ students in ISU and London will support those new to collaborative learning online. Dr. Andrew Brown is known for his international scholarship into graduate education and research. His focus will explore culture, pedagogy and learning with reading that address shifts in modes of production of knowledge, culture/social difference and pedagogy and the changing nature of advanced higher education. Dr. Brown’s doctoral students in London will add their perspectives with a variety of European cultures and educational contexts, such as special needs and teaching in universities. Dr. Elsebeth Sorensen is known for her award winning scholarship in virtual portfolio structures and networked collaborative learning. Her focus will be drawn from her teaching within the Masters in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and Learning that is part of Aalborg University’s new Centre for Human Centered Informatics. Dr. Sorensen will be joined by Danish students specialising in inter-cultural communication, including Eva and Kristine who are currently working to develop support for intercultural exchange suing digital technologies and media while studying abroad in ISU. Dr. Zahrl Schoeny is an Associate Professor at the prestigious University of Virginia, Curry Center for Technology in Teacher Education. Dr. Schoeny’s focus draws upon his editing of a special issue of the JITTE on leadership (in press) that brings together a set of papers on a range of leadership issues facing teacher educators, with the aim of empowering leaders at all levels of educational systems. His courses for "technology-enriched" educational administrators have contributed to ISTE’s technology standards. Christina Preston is the founder of the international fellowship of MirandaNet. The fellowship all shares the vision of suing communications technologies to enhance education and they are leaders who support others in their aim. Christina founded MirandaNet in the UK and has since gone on to found sister organizations in the Czech Republic, Chile and most recently in China. Christina is also a researcher in the Institute of Education, University of London and collaborates with many colleagues there. She will co-lead the reading group’s consideration of the link with professional organizations. Dr. Rick Ferdig is an assistant professor at the University of Florida. He supervises students in the Educational Technology Production Track, a track aimed at combining educational theory with cutting-edge technologies to create innovative learning environments. Rick’s strong scholarship in teacher education and reading will support his leadership our discussions as we consider the use of multimedia towards the end of our month-long session.
