In these days, globalization has become the very important word to every country. That seems to mean that countries in the world are becoming close neighbors and borders of the past are meaningless now. That is, the world of today has become one family.
The close relation among countries is thanks to development of transportation and the information technology like the Internet. For example, it took only 13 hours for me to come to the U.S.A. from my country by jet plane. Perhaps it would have taken 2-3 days by old fashioned plane or over one month by ship 20 or 30 years ago. And we can take information which we want from the Internet. Even if an international student doesn't attend the classes in America, he or she can get a master's degree from an American university on the computer.
Globalization also means that every country affects each other. If the economy of America becomes worse, that of Asian countries drops down, too. I have no idea exactly how much the globalization will influence our future lives. However, it is clear that the world in the future will greatly change our lives, thoughts, and customs as professor Alvin Toffler expected some years ago.
Therefore, we need to know and understand the global world more than before because we can not survive any longer without knowing each other.
Astrology
Many people are puzzled about what astrology means. Is it science or art?
Astrology literally means the study of the stars, the forerunner of astronomy. It's the study of how human personality and behavior can be inferred from the position of the sun, moon and planets at the time of a baby's birth. Scientists say, "Astrology is a mathematical system that shows a person's planetary representations at the time of birth in a 360 circle. Astrology has been researched and practiced for thousands of years in many different cultures. Probably we shouldn't just ignore all this knowledge.
Can the stars really predict our fortune? The legendary astrologer Cerant Lewi once said that it was "believed in" by many people who know practically nothing about it, and "disbelieved in" by even more who know absolutely nothing about it; of no other art or science could this be said. A full astrological reading requires charts of the heavens including planets and stars. You also need lots of experience, as it's a very complex thing to undertake.
I am sure you've flicked through a magazine or newspaper before and come across the horoscopes page. You probably had a peek at the daily forecast for your birth sign and scoffed at the ridiculous prediction. After all, how can one twelfth of the population have the exact same day as you? You chuckle to yourself, what a load of rubbish, cast aside your paper and forget that a shop assistant has given you too much change, not much, mind you, just a pound or so. Suddenly you remember something your horoscope said-you may come into some unexpected money. You realize that it has come true, and wonder if it was fate. Perhaps it was... So, astrology is a funny gizmo! You may be surprised.
On the other hand, don't let astrology rule your life like some people do. I've heard that there are people who simply won't date someone whose birth sign is not compatible with their own. And there are others who won't get out of bed if their daily horoscope predicts an accident around the home. Well, that's fair enough if someone wants to take astrology as gospel, but personally I think that the best way to enjoy astrology is to take it all with a grain of salt!
