Tuesday
Activities will include:
- Discussion of differences between print and online reading.
- Discussion of Chapter 6, Locating and Using information, including:
- Boolean logic
- Online searches – learning to focus search terms to improve results
- Library searches - searching the online catalog versus browsing the stacks. Also, locating PDF journal articles for university holdings.
- Demonstration of EndNote, a stand-alone bibliographic database program, and Zotero, a research tool extension for the Firefox web browser.
- Surveys and polls - check out http://www.surveymonkey.com and open-source Lime Survey
- Questions about the research assignments due Thursday.
Thursday
Activities will include:
- Submitting your research assignment and discussing the website analyses due next week.
- Discussion of Chapter 10, "Organizing Information."
- Discussion of rhetorical concepts of invention and arrangement. Software download invention and exploration software @ http://www.inspiration.com.
- Surveys and polls - check out http://www.surveymonkey.com
- Discussion of information design and information architecture.
