Midterm Exam
Due date: Tuesday, October 20
The midterm exam gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge you have learned so far in the semester from both our class discussion and from the following chapters of the Burnett textbook (in the order they were assigned):
- Chapter 1 - Characterizing Workplace Communication
- Chapter 7 - Planning and Drafting
- Chapter 8 - Revising and Editing
- Chapter 3 - Reading Technical Information
- Chapter 6 - Locating and Using Information
- Chapter 10 - Organizing Information
- Chapter 4 - Addressing Audiences
- Chapter 9 - Ensuring Usability
- Chapter 11 - Designing Information
- Chapter 12 - Using Visual Forms
- Chapter 13 - Designing Electronic Communication
- Chapter 5 - Collaborating in the Workplace
- Chapter 14 - Creating Definitions
- Chapter 15 - Creating Technical Descriptions
- Chapter 19 - Preparing Proposals
The format of the exam will include an unspecified number of the following:
- multiple choice questions
- identification questions, in which you are given a term and you must supply a specific definition
- an essay question in which you are asked to write out a proposed solution to a technical communication problem
You can do well on this exam by taking detailed class notes, reading the chapters closely as they are assigned, and following the advice in this Exam Question Examples and Study Guide.
