College transfer students
Teacher Certification The State of Iowa requirements for teacher licensure sometimes make it difficult for students who did not start at ISU to complete their education in four total years. Because of this, students who wish to become high school teachers must take special care when considering the courses they use to fill A.A. requirements. For teacher education students, Foundation Communication and Foreign Languages remain important, but rather than focusing on the social sciences and humanities prerequisite courses, it is more helpful for students to bring in courses that transfer to ISU as the following: Approved Mathematics (MATH) or Statistics (STAT): 3 credits minimum Approved Natural Science: 6 credits minimum Speech Communications (SP CM) 212: Fundamentals of Public Speaking Psychology (PSYCH) 230: Developmental Psychology Political Science (POL S) 215: Introduction to American Government Political Science (POL S) 241: Introduction to Comparative Government and Politics Political Science (POL S) 251: Introduction to International Politics History (HIST) 221: Survey of United States History I History (HIST) 222: Survey of United States History II History (HIST) 201: Introduction to Western Civilization I History (HIST) 202: Introduction to Western Civilization II Curriculum and Instruction (C I) 204: Social Foundations of American Education To find out how classes from your Community College will transfer to ISU, see the Transfer Equivalency Guide.
