Executive Board Meeting Minutes

November 17, 2008

Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center

I. Call to order by President Cook at 5:02 pm.

A. In attendance: Brent Cook, Kevin Pederson, Dave Hauff, Mike Linde, Gary Schroder, Mark Brighton, Jim DeJong, Dave Litterer, Steve Duncan
Absent: D’Anne Kroemer, Hans Goettsch, Tom Lipovac

II. Correspondence

A. Roy Tompkin sent a thank you card after receiving a get-well card from IHSADA.

B. Allie Christenson sent a thank you card after receiving a dinner card from the IHSADA

C. Bernie Saggau wife Lois, past away, Kevin and Brent went to visitation.

III. Secretary’s Report

A. The minutes of the September 9 EXB meeting were read by President Cook. Motion to approve by Mike Linde, seconded by Dave Litterer

IV. Treasurer Report

A. No treasurer report

B. Discussion on membership number. Junior High membership is down. 288 memberships paid to IHSADA so far. Membership is all done on line now. Might be down because people are not getting their Emails. This is the first year we have not sent out hard copies by the Junior Directors. Junior Directors will follow up in each district to remind Athletic Directors that have not joined yet.

C. We have 123 NIAAA members, highest number in recent years. Iowa may receive a citation from NIAAA for increased membership.

V. NIAAA Liaison Report

A. Steve Duncan talked about the NIAAA awards

B. Nominated Marv Reiland for Distinguished Service award

C. Steve Duncan for the NFHS Citation motioned by Rose, 2^nd by Linde.

D. Mr. Gary Ross selected as the NIAAA state Award of Merit, motion by

Linde, 2^nd by Schroeder

E. Duane Kramer was nominated as NIAAA Hall of Fame. Litterer motion,

2^nd by Duncan

F. Bernie Saggau was nominated as NIAAA Hall of Fame Motion by Dunc,

2^nd by Huff

G. Will discuss Bob White award in January.

VI. LTP Coordinator’s Report

A. Discussion on Liaison for NIAAA and LTC joining together with LTC certification person. Will talk about adding a position. Liaison is Brad Rose.

B. Talked about offering 2 LTP classes at the State convention at the same time. Beginning AD’s and veterans AD’s go to different classes. 4-year rotation of classes. Brad Rose will develop a plan to carry this out.

C. Frank Kovaleski award, Jim Gebhart was nominated, Pederson made a motion, 2^nd by Dave Litterer.

VII. Historian’s report

A. Doyle from trophies Plus was supposed to give prices on awards, did not

Show up.

VIII. Newsletter Editor’s Report

A. Gary Schoreder talked about Newsletter that will be available only online

B. Hard copy will be sent to past president, retired AD’s.

IX. Fall District meetings in 2009

A. A request from the IHSAA and IGHSAU to have the fall District meeting all

during week 14, October 5^th through 9^th. Each association would need an hour to present.

X. State Convention for 2009

A. Theme: Iowa Athletic Director “Leading By Example”

B. Speakers: Brian Cain, AD from Vermont, Jim Tunney NFL retired Official

Still looking for Tuesdays speaker

C. Conventions favors discussed.

XI. Business Manager report

A. Vendors will be contacted electronically by Email. We will not send letters out to save on postage. Many ideas about getting the AD’s into visiting the Vendors. More give a-ways.

B. Discussed Corporate sponsors

XII. National Convention in San Diego:

A. No golfers as of yet, a higher number of AD’s will attend from Iowa

B. Hospitality Night will be two nights. Sunday and Monday,

C. Iowa night will be December 14.

D. IHSADA-EXB-IHSAA-IGHSAU evening is Monday, December 15

E. IHSADA sponsors for golf tournament Mildred Jennings Golf Outing $250.00 Motion by Steve Duncan, 2^nd by Mr. DeJong

A. Need to get agendas in earlier than in the past

A. Motion to adjourn by Schroeder and 2^nd by Litterer.
