LTC 500 - Athletic Administration: Administration of Middle School Athletic Programs
This course will provide insights and strategies for the development and leadership of developmentally-sound and educationally-compatible middle school athletic programs. A model will be defined for making the transition from physical education and intramurals to interscholastic athletics in the context of the readiness of the athlete. Other topics will include: instructional considerations, communication techniques, program evaluations and the relationship of the middle school athletic program to the high school and private sector competition. LTC 501* - Athletic Administration: Philosophy, Leadership, Organizations and Professional Programs
This flagship course of Leadership Training serves as an overview for the Certified Athletic Administrator examination. Topics discussed include: NFHS, NIAAA, Legal Issues, Communication, Budgets, Technology and Leadership Styles. The course also previews the NIAAA Certification Program and the Leadership Training Program. It is a prerequisite for all levels of certification. A student activity manual is included.

LTC 502 - Athletic Administration: Principles, Strategies and Methods
This course will take a basic approach to the fundamentals and methods of athletic administration and will alert and educate athletic administrators regarding potential problems and possible solutions in areas such as budgets, transportation, scheduling and parent/student/coach conflicts. The course will also touch upon sample athletic/activity program philosophies, department organizational charts, activity procedures/checklists, public relations, coaching applications/assessments and emergency plans. Course materials, as well as the manual "Athletic Administration: A Comprehensive Guide" are included.

LTC 503 - Athletic Administration: Citizenship Through Sports and Fine Arts
This course exposes the individual to the positive values that can be taught through athletic/activity participation, utilizing the NFHS Citizenship Through Sports and Fine Arts Initiative. This interactive course will provide the necessary tools to implement a citizenship initiative within your own school and community. Course materials include group activity forms, as well as the NFHS Citizenship Through Sports publications.

LTC 504* - Athletic Administration: Legal Issues 1 (Risk Management)
This course will focus on risk management as an ongoing responsibility of the athletic administrator. Included will be strategies for reducing risks and minimizing litigation that may result from constitutional, federal law and state law challenges. In addition, the 14 legal duties of coaches and athletic administrators will be covered with special emphasis on the need to be constantly proactive. Current case law studies are provided to demonstrate practical applications of the legal concepts and principles presented. The newest interpretations and applications of Title IX and ADA are introduced. Course materials include student manual, legal handbook and reference materials.

LTC 505 - Athletic Administration: Innovative Methods of Mentoring and Problem Solving
This course is designed to expose the individual to the basic principles of coach-to-coach mentoring programs. Participants will compare mentoring models to become familiar with key behaviors to practice and to avoid in the establishment of an effective mentoring program. Mentoring is an attitude, relationship and investment with a mutual understanding of responsibilities for both mentor and mentee. Athletic administrators will learn how to establish, supervise and maximize coach-to-coach or mentor to mentee mentoring programs.

LTC 506 - Athletic Administration: Legal Issues II (Title IX, Sexual Harassment, ADA and Employment Law)
This course will provide an overview of contemporary interpretation of law for each topic area, along with contemporary case law studies. Athletic administrators will also be provided a Title IX program assessment instrument. Through the use of this assessment tool, directors will be able to determine the degree to which local schools meet current Office of Civil Rights (OCR) standards.

LTC 507 - Athletic Administration: Assessment of Interscholastic Athletic Programs and Personnel
This course examines a philosophic rationale and a variety of methods that may be used to assess athletic programs and personnel. The goals of this program are to improve the performance of athletic coaches and other athletic department personnel, improvement of program operations and improvement of satisfaction among players, parents and employees.

A central theme is to encourage assessment of needs, interests and opinions that can enhance goal setting and planning priorities.

Chapter 1 examines a philosophic rationale for assessment in high school sport programs. Chapter 2 discusses basic statistical concepts. Chapter 3 focuses on Affective (opinions) Assessment. Chapter 4 describes various Personnel Assessment methods and concepts. Chapter 5 details various Program Assessment techniques.

Sample assessment instruments are provided as appendices. In addition, these instruments have been recorded on 3.5 inch discs for school-specific use, modification and applications.

LTC 508 - Athletic Administration: Management Strategies and Organization Techniques
This course is designed to inform athletic administrators how to more effectively organize and manage their time, apply time management principles, be more productive and have balance to life. Instruction will focus on 12 key components and strategies, including proven techniques and tips to teach participants how to: Set Goals and Priorities, Plan for Results, Organize for Success, Process Paperwork, Delegate Effectively, Eliminate Time Wasters, Enhance Decision-Making, Make Meetings Productive, Conquer Procrastination, Utilize Technology, Communicate Effectively and Reduce Stress.

LTC 509 - Athletic Administration: Communications, Leadership and Decision-Making Concepts, Methods and Applications for Athletic Administrators
This course examines relevant strategies and principles that can be used to enhance the skills of athletic administrators in communication, leadership and decision-making. An ultimate goal of this course is to enhance high school athletic programs and their educational purposes through the use of assessment data. The course is divided into three sections, each focused on one of the three major topic areas. In this regard, detailed concepts along with materials and strategies for enhancement of skills and abilities are provided. Appendices provide relevant materials, instruments and assessment procedures that support text materials and principles.

LTC 510 - Athletic Administration: Current Issues in American Sports (Taught only at National Conference)
A panel of secondary level athletic administrators and outside experts will lead small group discussions of important issues and effective response strategies for 3-5 topics of contemporary issues selected each year. The topics will be examined by using a moderator to guide the discussion and cover certain aspects of the topic. The participants will have ample opportunity to participate in the discussion. The instructional format of the course will consist of lecture, seminar discussion and audience interaction. Relevant materials and handouts will be provided. Each participant will be asked to bring 60 copies of an "Idea That Works" to share with the class.

The topics for this course will be kept current by surveying the class each year. The next year's class topics will be designated by adding a year date to the class number. This will enable class participants to repeat the class in the future to gain valuable information on the most current topics of interest.

LTC 511 - Athletic Administration: Interscholastic Athletic Budget Concepts and Supplemental Fund-Raising
This course of study provides an overview of accepted budget management practices and strategies. Included are budget models, time-lines, public relations strategies including methods for desk-top budget management. Four models of supplemental fund-raising are summarized along with a method for defining the role and function of a booster club. The potential for fund-raising through community foundations or education foundations are introduced along with a focused chapter on "Corporate Sponsorships". An extended reference list is provide listing a number of interest websites that can provide information about high-return fund-raising efforts that require minimal effort.

LTC 512 - Athletic Administration: Powerpoint Applications - Basic
This course is an excellent resource for LTC instructors, but is also a useful tool in the everyday responsibilities of the athletic administrator when making presentations to community groups, booster clubs, boards of education, etc. Attendees will receive a notebook of simple PowerPoint instructions and procedures. The hands-on course will offer the athletic administrator an opportunity to actively take part in the presentation of the course.

LTC 513 - Athletic Administration: Technology Overview
This course provides a sound understanding of what the Internet is and how to use it. Other topics include email, attachments, favorites, advanced searches and Outlook 2000. Additional areas covered in the overview are Mail Merge using Microsoft Word, creating charts in Microsoft Excel, handheld computers and LCD projectors. Productivity and self-esteem will increase after learning with real world examples focused on the needs of the athletic administrator.

LTC 514 - Athletic Administration: Dealing With Challenging Personalities
This course examines the causes of challenging or difficult personalities in society with specific reference to high school athletic programs. Basic management strategies include the use of emotional intelligence and transactional analysis considerations and methods. Specific protocols are defined for dealing with individuals who "must be right", "must win", "must be logical" and "must be accepted". In addition, techniques are covered for preventing or responding to anger, sarcasm, denigration, complainers, back-biters and rigid-obstinate personalities. A model is discussed for creative interaction with parents who demand involvement in athletic department decision-making or who seek to influence the decisions of senior administrators.

LTC 515 - Athletic Administration: Athletic Field Management
This course provides athletic administrators with a practical, cost-effective and scientific approach to turf management. Upon completion, administrators will have developed skills and knowledge required to maintain, safe, resilient and attractive fields. The course will help athletic administrators develop long range, operational and assessment plans and a documentation process for outdoor playing surfaces. An instructional/reference manual is provided.

LTC 516 - Athletic Administration: Management of Indoor Physical Plant Assets (future release)
This course will complement LTC 515, which focuses on outdoor assets and athletic turf enhancement. As such, LTC 516 will consider spectator facilities, special use gymnasia, natatoriums, laundry rooms and locker rooms along with various systems that support these facilities. Mechanical System checklists for use in regular inspections and maintenance programming will be provided. In addition, considerations and issues related to construction and remodeling programs will be discussed.

LTC 518 - Athletic Administration: Management of Interscholastic Athletic Player Equipment (future release)
This course will make use of principles, strategies and best-practices for fitting, adjusting, managing, reconditioning and maintaining athletic apparel, footwear and protective equipment. All methods and techniques discussed will be drawn from American Equipment Managers Association standards and practices.

LTC 520 - Athletic Administration: Character and Coaching
For your school's athletic program to be truly character-based, it is essential that the school's stakeholders (athletic director, principal, superintendent, school board and parents) act on the established core virtues in the mission statement of the athletic department. When professional stakeholders walk the talk, their actions speak volumes to the student athletes and community at-large. This course provides administrators with a "full stakeholder" approach to make the athletic department mission come alive on the athletic field. The course is interactive, full of useful activities and provides administrators with a template ready to use back in their home school. The course is based on the book "Character and Coaching-Building Virtue in Your Athletic Program" by John Yeager. This text is included as a course resource.

LTC 522 - Athletic Administration: PowerPoint Applications - Advanced
This course is designed for those individuals who will be presenting LTP materials and would like to use some advanced features to improve the quality and presentation of these materials. Students also learn how to integrate presentations with the World Wide Web. The course is an extension of LTC 512 and centers around six 30 minute lessons covering a variety of topics. Each lesson requires the student to interact with the software in the process of developing short presentations.

LTC 590* - Athletic Administration: Leadership Training Instructional Methods and Techniques
This course is designed to provide instructors with an awareness of the expectations that are placed upon them in presenting LTP courses. The course examines teaching and learning styles and provides strategies for instructors to use in teaching these courses. It provides for interaction between potential LTP instructors in the exchange of ideas used in the successful implementation of courses. An instructor's manual is included. Only National Conference Presentation Faculty are permitted to teach 590.
