Professor Luecke’s High Performance Computing (HPC)
Group is involved in research in the areas of parallel algorithms, parallel
tools, and the evaluation of high performance computing systems. He has had
over 60 graduate students, visiting scholars, and post doctoral students.
Professor Luecke has been awarded over $6 million in contracts and grants
performing a wide variety of research activities for the following
organizations:
The United States Department of Defense using resources of the Extreme Scale Systems Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
The United States Department of Defense
Cray Inc.
Sun Microsystems
Silicon Graphics Inc.
NASA via Computer Science Corporation
IBM
Visual Numerics
Hitachi Data Systems
He has developed a long term relationship with Cray Inc. and has continuously had contracts with them since 1992. In 2009, with funding from ORNL his HPC Group is developing compile-time error detection tests for UPC and developing a design document for a run-time error detection tool for UPC. In 2008, his HPC Group completed the fourth year of a four year grant from the US Department of Defense as part of DARPA’s High Productivity Computing Initiative. During the first year of this grant, run-time error tests were developed for serial run-time errors. During the second year of this project, run-time error tests for MPI were developed. For the third year run-time error tests for OpenMP were developed. Run-time error tests for UPC tests are being developed in the fourth year of this project. In 2003 he received $300,000 worth of computing equipment in exchange for work from Cray. This computing equipment was donated to the HPC Partnership.
