Rhetoric of reconciliation

Course Goals	This class promises that you will develop responsible opinions about the ways people can speak in order to address histories of atrocities. What are "responsible" opinions? they are based in a broad knowledge of what has happened in the world; they arise from a deep understanding of the powers and limits of speech; they are consistent with your own life experience and philosophy‹you care about them; they can be expressed and defended‹they respond to others' views.

Other Resources	The first quiz (Tuesday of second week) will include the following questions: What is the attendance policy for this class? True or false: Everything on the syllabus can be changed. Do I accept papers by email? Your peer group will be responsible for doing what? What countries are we going to consider this semester? What do you think about the grading scheme?
