Dance Instructions

Waltzing to Iowa Waltz 32 1C Circle
    Doug Schneider, Wee Hoose on the Prairie
1-8 All couples (W on the R of her Partner) in one big circle, face center, nearer hands joined; ADV for 2, RET for 2; turn towards partner to face out; ADV for 2 (away from center), RET for 2; turn to face partner.
9-16 'GYPSY' with partner (dance round each other back to place, maintaining eye contact, but no hands); TURN by the R back to place;
17-20 Retain partner's R hand, join L hands with neighbor (one big circle, M facing in, W facing out); everyone BALANCE R, and BALANCE L. 1/2 TURN with neighbor by the L.
21-24 Retain neighbor's L hand, join R hands with new neighbor: one big circle, M facing out, W in. BALANCE R and L. 1/2 TURN with neighbor by the L, to face partner;
25-32 Dance BACK-TO-BACK with partner; pass partner by the R and TURN new partner with B hands to face center of circle, nearer hands joined.

The Merry Reapers Jig 8x24 3C
   RSCDS Gr #3
1-8 1C cast off two places, lead up the middle, cast off to 2nd place (2C step up, 7-8).
9-16 1C, 2C, 3C dance 6 hands round and back.
17-24 1C, 2C, 3C turn by the R; turn by the L.

Lady Auckland's Reel Strathspey 8x32 2C
   RSCDS 18 #2
1-8 1 & 2 W dance between 1 & 2 M, cast round own partners, W turn each other with 2 hands to face partners; turn partners with 2 hands.
9-16 1 & 2 M repeat bars 1-8.
17-24 1C lead down the middle and back.
25-32 1C & 2C allemande.

Lady Dumfries Reel 8x32 3C
    MMM I
1-8 1C, 2C dance RLs.
9-16 1C, followed by 2C, lead down the middle and back, 1C finish in 2nd place, 2C finish in 1st place.
17-24 2, 1, 3C set and cross by R; repeat, 1C passing R shoulders to finish back to back ready for Double Triangles.
25-32 Dance Double Triangles.

The Braes of Breadalbane Strathspey 8x32 3C
    RSCDS 21 #7
1-8 1C turn by the R and cast; turn by the L, and W cast up, M down to finish 3 and 3 across the dance.
9-16 1C, 2C, 3C set twice; 1W casts down while 1M casts up, turn by the R and finish in 2nd place on own side.
17-24 1C, 2C, 3C set twice; all turn once round with B hands.
25-32 2C, 1C dance R's & L's.

The Triumph Reel 4x24 4C
    RSCDS 1 #2
1-8 1M lead 1W down the middle and back, presenting her to 2M.
9-16 2M, 1W dance down the middle, 1M following; 1W turn by R, 1M form arch with partner and 2M; 1W, with 1M and 2M, dance up the middle in triumph. 2M break off and return to place.
17-24 1C poussette to the bottom of the dance, 2, 3, 4C step up on 23-24.
Poussette: 1C (opposite sides of dance) face as for poussette; (1) quarter turn, (2) progress down the dance, (3) quarter turn, (4) quarter turn, (5) progress, (6) progress and turn, (7) turn to own side of side, (8) fall back to sides.

Trip to Gatlinburg Jig 8x32 3C
    Shengzhang Tang
1-8 1C & 2C, RH ACROSS, LH back.
9-16 Progressive Chase: 1W, followed by 2W & 3W, dance across the top. 1W followed by 3W, dance between 1M & 2M, in front of 2M, out behind 3M. 2W dance straight down behind all 3 men, to reach the bottom first. Then 2W followed by 1W & 3W dance across the bottom & up to places to end 2,1,3.
17-24 1M, 2M, 3M repeat that pattern to end on their own sides, 2,1,3.
25-32CIRCLE 6 hands round & back.

Wisp of Thistle Strathspey 8x32 3C
    RSCDS 37 #4
1-8 1C and 3C dance "PETRONELLA TURNS" into the middle of the dance (1M & 3W back to back) and SET to partners; dance 1/2 R OF 4.
9-10 3C and 1C dance "PETRONELLA TURNS" to own sides (3C in 1st place, 1C in 3rd place).
11-16 3C, 2C, 1C SET, joining nearer hands on sides; all TURN partners by the R to finish ready for ........
17-24 3C, 2C 1C dance the ALLEMANDE.
25-32 1C CROSS over by the R, and CAST OFF to 2nd place (2C step up, 27-28); 1C dance 1/2 fIGURE OF 8 round the 2C

The Clansman Reel 8x32 3C
    RSCDS 32 #8
1 -8 1C cross by the R, cast to 2nd place on opposite sides; 1C, 2C dance RHx half way, set to partner.
9 -16 1C, 2C dance RL. Bars 15, 16, turn by L to finish with W giving R hands in the middle.
17-24 The Targe:
17-20 1, 2W turn 3/4 by R while M dance CCW 1/4 of way round circle, with opposite partner, turn by L once round;
21-24 REPEAT to finish on sides, 1C facing up, 2C down.
25-32 1C, 2C, Set to opposite, then to partner; 1C lead up bet 2C, crossing over and cast to 2nd place on own sides.

Hamilton House Jig 8X32 3C
   RSCDS 7 #10
1-4 1W set to 2M, pass him by, set to & turn 3M to finish between 2 & 3 M.
5-8 1M set to 2W, pass her by, set to & turn 3W to finish between 3C; on 7-8, 1W turn to finish between 2C, who have stepped up.
9-16 All set; 1C turn 3/4 with 2 hands to finish between corners.
17-24 All set; 1C turn 1/2 with 2 hands to finish on own sides in 2nd place.
25-32 6 hands round and back.

Crathes Castle Strathspey 3x48 3C set
   RSCDS 44 #8
1 -8 1C set and 1/2 turn by R to face down in promenade hold; dance down between 2 and 3C, cross by L and cast up to 2nd place on own sides. 2C step up, 7-8.
9-16 Mirror R of 3 on own sides, 1C dance in and up to begin. Join nearer hands where possible.
17-24 1C dance 1/2 fig 8 round 2C; 1/2 fig 8 round 3C.
25-28 Dance RHx, 1W with 2C, 1M with 3C;
29-32 1W lead 2C, 1M lead 3C, dance CW 1/2 way round to finish 3, 1, 2 on opposite sides.
33-36 1M with 3C, 1W with 2C, circle to L; on bar 36 1C pull back by R to face, M facing down, W up.
37-40 1C set, dance out through 2nd place on opposite sides and up to 1st place. 3C step down, 39-40.
41-48 1, 3, 2, C adv and ret, link for 3; repeat. Finish on own sides, 2, 3, 1.

Irish Rover Reel 8x32 3C
    Cosh/22 SCD
1-8 1C lead down 2 places and cast up round 3C to 2nd place. 1W dance R hands X with 2C. while 1M dance R hands X with 3C. (2C step up, bars 1-2)
9-16 1C dance a half R shoulder reel of 4 with 1st corners, pass L shoulders, half R shoulder reel with 2nd corners; finish with quick L hand turn ready to:
17-24 Give L shoulders to person in 1st corner position for reels of 3 across the dance. 1C finish in 2nd place on own side.
25-32 1C, 2C, 3C dance diagonal rights and lefts (lady up, man down). (1W 3W, 1M 2M change places RH: 1W 2M, 1M 3W change places LH; 1W 3M, 1M 2W change places RH; 1W 2W, 1M 3M change place LH).

Maxwell's Rant Reel 8x32 3C

1 - 8 1C cross over to dance reels of 3 on the wrong side of the dance.
9 - 161C cross over to dance reels of 3 on own side.
17-20 1C cross by the R and cast round 2C on wrong side.
21-24 1C dance 1/2 fig 8 round 2C.
25-28 1C dance down between 3C & cast up to 2nd place.
29-32 2C, 1C, 3C turn partners by the R hand.

Luckenbooth Brooch Jig 8x32 3C

1-8 1C, promenade hold, dance R OF 3 with 2C, passing R shoulder with 2M to begin. (2C dance into 1st place to finish.)
9-16 1C dance R OF 3 with 3C, passing R shoulder with 3M to begin. Finish in the middle facing M's side.
17-24 1C dance out between 2&3M, M cast up, W cast down, meet in the middle facing W's side. Dance out between 2&3W, M cast up, finish between 2C facing down, W cast down, finish between 3C facing up.
Meanwhile
2C & 3C dance R's & L's.
25-28 SET 3&3 across the dance.
29-32 1C TURN 1-3/4, into promenade hold, ready to begin the dance again.

MacDonald of the Isles Strathspey 3x32 3C set

1 - 8 2C begins by dancing a diagonal Reel of 4 with 1st corners, passing L shoulders, dance round each other by the L shoulder on bar 8 to face 2nd corners.
9 -16 2C dance a diagonal of 4 with 2nd corners, finishing in own place.
17-24 1C begin the Progressive Grand Chain. 2C & 3C enter the chain when 1C reaches them.
25-28 3C & 2C dance half R & L.
29-32 3C [in 2nd place on the wrong side] dance a half figure of 8 round the person diagonally to their R finishing in 2nd place on their own side, ready to begin the dance again.

The Machine Without Horses Jig 4x32 3C

1 - 4 1C SET, CAST OFF to 2nd place (2C step up, bars 3-4);
4 - 8 1C, 3C dance RIGHT HANDS X, once round;
9 -12 1C SET, CAST UP (2C step down, bars 11-12);
13-16 1C, 2C dance L HANDS X, once round;
17-24 1C followed by 2C, dance down between 3C, cast up; 1C dance thru 1C place and cast to 2nd place; 2C finish in 1st place.
