This source gives much information on Ritalin beginning with its creation and giving a brief background on the early uses for it. Effects of the drug are discussed and how the drug was designed to help people with certain ailments.The source gives the criticisms of the drug but also shows that all the criticisms may not be one-hundred percent well-founded. This source gives good information about the drug and its uses and effects. Even though this source shows the criticisms it also shows that some of the criticisms are not completely true. This source uses a story about a family who uses Ritalin to cope with their disorders. The mother has had this problem her entire life and when her children showed symptoms like hers they got checked. The argument in this article is that perhaps ADHD is not a disorder and the prescriptions are not required. This article gives information about two ADHD drugs that are being abused by children. The problem in this article is centered on kids giving away their medications to others. The article also states the vast problems that can arise from abusing these drugs, especially Ritalin which is more addictive. This source gives good information on the problem of abuse of ADHD drugs but doesn’t give much information on whether the drugs are needed or are just a way of the drug companies to make money. This source gives the point of view that Ritalin is not needed but is way over prescribed. The author presents myths that relate to the drug but also gives circumstances when the drug is necessary. He goes on to give suggestions on alternatives to Ritalin but also agrees that in some rare cases Ritalin is needed. The article gives certain points that a conference of health experts could agree on about Ritalin and its use. Most experts believe that it helps short term symptoms but agree that no long term studies have been done to prove long term benefits exist. Like most other articles on this topic two sides give input on a large idea. |
