Janzen Links

When the ebbing tide retreats
Along the rocky shoreline
It leaves a trail of tidal pools
In a short-lived galaxy
Each microcosmic planet
A complete society

A simple kind of mirror
To reflect upon our own
All the busy little creatures
Chasing out their destinies
Living in their pools
They soon forget about the sea...

Places

ISU ADVANCE
This web site contains the contents of an important program initiated by a grant to ISU from the National Science Foundation to advance women faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Dr. Janzen participates actively in these efforts both on and off campus.
EvoNet: A worldwide network for evolutionary biology
EvoNet contains the web and email addresses of many of the people, labs, and departments working in evolutionary biology and related fields. In addition, it contains pointers to many other useful resources in evolutionary biology, such as software, journals, societies, and other web sites.
Centre for the Study of Evolution
This site strives to become THE web link providing a primary source of general knowledge and information about evolutionary biology. Great idea!
A "White Paper" on Evolutionary Biology
Describes the current state of evolutionary biology, and discusses its contributions to society. Written by some of the biggest names in the field.

Tools for Studying Evolutionary Biology

GenBank
GenBank is the NIH genetic sequence database, a source where you can look up a particular sequence of DNA from all publicly available DNA sequences. The NCBI taxonomy homepage contains links to a taxonomy browser to help find the sequences you need.
TreeBASE
A database of phylogenetic knowledge (unfortunately, currently only green plants).
PhyCom
News (articles, programs, updates, etc.) for the phylogenetic community, as well as a forum for questions and discussion, links to labs, programs, etc., and eventually downloads of scripts and how-tos (and more).
Quantitative Genetics Resources
An electronic supplement to a two-volume text on quantitative genetics by Lynch and Walsh. Contains an index of web pages concerning quantitative genetics.
Evolutionary Genetics References
An EndNote database of >12,000 references.
