Eportfolio
Diagnostic Essay
This was the first assignment from English 105H.
It was not graded, but served as a starting point for our semester.
The assignment was pretty vague. We were just supposed to tell a story to the class.
We had two minutes to present whatever we had chosen.
I decided to teach my class how to walk around campus and not look like a freshman.

Assignment One: Definitional Essay
For this assignment, we were asked to read several selections from our textbook,
Convergences, as well as Doing Documentary Work, by Robert Coles. From these
readings and through research of our own, we were supposed to answer the question,
"What is documentary?"

Assignment Two: Rhetorical Analysis of a Documentary Film
For this assignment, we each chose a documentary film to watch and analyze.
We were supposed to examine the different communication techniques that were made
in the making of the film. We were also supposed to evaluate the effectiveness of these
choices for the purpose of the film.
We looked at units such as persuasive strategies, organization, perspective,
editing, and many others.
I chose to analyze the film Capturing the Friedmans.

Assignment Three: Documentary of a Local Event
We were split into groups for this assignment. As a group, we attended a pre-approved
event with the intention of documenting it. My group documented the Insect Horror Film
Festival. After we had collected all of our information, we made individual posters.
We presented our posters in a conference style in the Memorial Union.
We were required to present our posters three times while our classmates walked around the
room and acted as the audience.

Assignment Four: Electronic Portfolio
This website, and in particular, the Eportfolio section, was the final assignment
for English 105H. It is supposed to be a documentation of my first semester at Iowa
State University. The work presented is my best work from the semester.
It is a demonstration of the WOVE technique.
