Earning a Laboratory Waiver While Auditing Physics 111, 112, 221 or 222

What does it mean to "Audit" a course? A student who registers on an audit basis is entitled to all the privileges of other enrolled students, namely, to attend class, take exams, ask questions of the instructor, and to seek help in the help room. The only difference is that no grade will be submitted by the department to the Registrar for students who audit.

A student may audit one of these courses, complete all the laboratory work and request a waiver of the laboratory when taking the course for credit in a future semester. A waiver will be granted in this case if it has been documented that all the requirements for the granting of a waiver have been satisfied.

In the case of students who take a course on an audit basis and who desire a lab waiver, it is the student’s responsibility to provide the necessary documentation, namely, a completed copy of the form titled, “Certification of the Completion of Laboratory”. During the semester in which the lab is completed, students should inform the recitation and lab instructors within a week of enrolling on (or changing to) an audit basis that completion of the form will be requested at the end of the semester.
