About Me

My name is Erica Velasco and I am a freshman honors student at Iowa State University. I am originally from Omaha, NE where I attended a small, parochial, all-girls school so Iowa State is quite different from my high school in all areas. However, I thought it would be fun to expand my horizons and attend a large, public, co-educational college. In addition to branching out from Omaha, I chose Iowa State because of my major – civil engineering. Iowa State is an excellent engineering school and I look forward to graduating with a major in structural civil engineering as well as a second major in Spanish. Throughout high school I took classes in the language and I was even able to travel to Spain with a group of classmates during the summer of 2006. I fell in love with the country and the language and I hope to be able to study abroad and eventually become fluent. Outside of the classroom I enjoy tennis, dance, and various social clubs. In high school I was involved in student council and at Iowa State I have become involved through various activities. I am a social chair for my dormitory house, a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and a member of the ISU Tennis Club. I am enjoying Iowa State University and I look forward to the rest of my time here.
