I am currently a graduate student of high energy physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Iowa State University. To support my education I am employed as a systems software engineer at the Iowa State University Computation Center where I absoultely love my job. In the future, I'd like to have a job which will allow me to combine teaching physics, doing research and writing software/maintaining computing equipment. If you're looking for someone to fill these positions, I am the person you should hire!
On a more personal level, I was born in Alton, Illinois ( remember the floods of 1993? [here is a satellite view of West Alton during the flood]) on April 19,1962. At the age of seven, using my free agent status, I began attending a new elementary school in College Park, Maryland. Naturally, I brought my family with me. I spent the next 17 years there attending school and working as a bartender at the Ledo Restaurant (the best pizza place in the DC area) and a research assistant in cometary astronomy before moving on to West Lafayette, Indiana to begin my graduate work. After determining that the physics department at Purdue University was a silly place, I then moved to Ames, Iowa. in the USA, where I live with my wife.
Whether any of this was by choice or whether I was transported here by evil space space aliens is a matter which will be discussed at great length for the next two centuries by historians and philosophers alike as a reason to justify the huge amounts of public funding they receive.
