Prereq:  Math 166;
credit or enrollment in 201.

 

Course Description

Math 317 is an introduction to the theoretical aspects of linear algebra. Emphasis is placed on mathematically rigorous proofs of the basic theorems of the subject. Topics include systems of linear equations, vector spaces, inner product spaces, linear transformations, determinants,  eigenvalues and eigenvectors.


 

 Grading Policy:


 Homework: Homework will be collected weekly or every two weeks.  A list of practice problems for each topic and the homework problems to be turned in can be found in the link below.

Exams: There will be three noncomprehensive in-class tests. The topics for each of them will be announced in advance.  The final exam is comprehensive.

Exam I: Tuesday, 2/15, chapters 1-3.3.
Exam II: Tuesday, 3/29, sections 3.4-4.3.
Exam III: Friday, 4/22, chapters 5-6.
Final exam : Monday, 5/2, 7.30-9.30 am at Carver 0002.  Syllabus
