Exams:
There will be two noncomprehensive midterm exams. The topics for each of them will be announced in advance. The departmental midterm and final exam will be comprehensive.

ALEKS assessment: In the spring semester, the "ALEKS" system will be used to assess and improve the pre-calculus skills of students enrolled in Calculus. You will need to go to http://www.aleks.com. The registration code is RXHKW-A4QVH. Click on the link marked "SIGN UP NOW" (to upper left) and supply this code, along with other information, when prompted. You will be required to pass the assessment with a score of at least 80% by Thursday, January 31, 2008, otherwise you will receive 0 points for that component of your grade. Any student who does not pass the assessment on the first try will be guided by the ALEKS software through an individualized tutorial, in preparation for trying the assessment again.
Detailed information about the ALEKS assessment can be found here

Calculator:
A calculator is recommended for this class, although you will not need it for many sections of the syllabus. However, you should show all your work in the quizzes and exams. No credit will be given  for answers without work.
