Description

You may want to begin by finding one person who belongs to a culture other than the culture in which you grew up (another country, another part of our country, or another distinct group of people).  Interview that person questions about his or her culture to help complete research that will help you address the following scenario.

I am the CEO of a corporation for which you work. (You can, and should, make up a type of company with specialties and image that meets the needs of that culture--we might determine an organization in class)  You are part of a team that I assigned to research cultures in areas where we will expand. I am meeting with a group of people from the above mentioned person’s culture for a proposal to introduce a working relationship with that area.  Other team members are meeting with people from other cultures.  Your part of this research group is only responsible for determining the business culture of the area, so your CEO can do business in this culture without embarrassment or major mistakes in communication.

You are NOT writing a marketing report for the area, so avoid statistics and information that will determine feasibility of doing business in that area.  You only need information that will allow your CEO to work in that business atmosphere.

Your responsibilities include

  • Determining what adjustments (i.e. clothing, non-verbal communication, color trends, gender biases, etc.) you will need to make to present a successful proposal to people from that culture,
  • Defining what elements will create a convincing argument for people from that culture, and
  • Reporting back to me, your boss, on the decisions that you made for success in that area.

Your final report should be submitted to me in the format you know (from your notes and readings) is appropriate for this type of communication between you and the CEO of your company.  Be sure to include all of your research in your report.

Each member of the group will research his or her own culture, but the group will present a single, unified report with cover page, table of contents, and appendix.

You will present your findings in a boardroom presentation.

The report is worth 100 points:
