Informational Brochure

Purpose

The purpose of this exercise is to provide you with an opportunity to

  • Demonstrate your understanding of audience and purpose analysis,
  • Demonstrate your ability to effectively and efficiently write and design a document that delivers information to a specific audience,
  • Demonstrate your understanding of design elements, and
  • Use information that you gather to create a piece for your portfolio.

 

Tasks Select a “real-life” brochure project for which you will gather information, organize that information, and design a document that meets the needs of the audience effectively and efficiently.

 

Requirements

Complete the Audience and Purpose Analysis prior to starting design.

Your brochure must contain the following elements:

  • Informational text,
  • Graphics, images, or other visual elements, and
  • Application of concepts from class including fonts, size, color and white space.
Evaluation

This project will be evaluated on the following basis:

 

Content (including information and visual elements)     50 points,

Application (application of course concepts)               20 points,

Mechanics and Technical Merit

     (punctuation, grammar, alignment, spacing, etc.)    20 points

Creativity and Preparation                                          10 points

  Excellent content and audience/purpose driven approach to delivery Good content and connection to audience/purpose, but lacking creative edge. Some good content but lacking audience or purpose connection. No, or few, aud/purp driven details.  Weak or inappropriate delivery.

  Appropriate use of text and lecture material and a clear intuition of aud/purp driven document. Demonstrates good use of text and lecture material with good execution. Demonstrates some concepts of text or lecture in design and content, but missing important elements of aud/purp. Inappropriate design and content for aud/purp. of document.
Mechanics 16-20 points 10-15 points 5-9 points 0-5 points
0-1 punctuation or grammar error per page. 2 punctuation or grammar error per page. 3 punctuation or grammar error per page. 4 or more grammar errors per page.

Demonstrates creativity and forethought.  No typos or editing errors. Demonstrates some creativity and no editing errors. Demonstrates some creativity and one editing error. Demonstrates little or no creativity and contains 2 or more editing errors.
