A Teacher Designed and Classroom Tested Curriculum

There are currently over 1500 NAB Approved Strategies in the NAB "Living Curriculum" database.

A "Living Curriculum" for Art Education

Traditional curriculums are repetitive ink stains on dead wood. The New Art Basics curriculum is an interactive database made up of a continually growing body of teacher designed strategies that are always under active testing in NAB classrooms. Strategies which do not prove effective in classrooms, with students, are removed from the database.

The "Living Curriculum" database is accessible to NAB teacher/researchers on the NAB Network through the World Wide Web. Strategies can be located on the database through using a:

Connected to each NAB strategy, by single key stroke, are:

The NAB "Living Curriculum" is designed to make curricular decisions based on organic principles that govern diverse biological organisms, like children. The curriculum will never be set or locked into one form but always grows and changes based on the needs, ideas, and experiences of the teachers of NAB.

Original Teacher Designed and Classroom Tested Strategies

Every trained and active NAB teacher/researcher can design and submit new strategy ideas for inclusion and testing in the NAB Living Curriculum.

All strategies must be designed within an approved, common format for clarity of communication and ease of teacher classroom adaptation. All NAB approved strategies are screened for compliance with this architecture.

ARCHITECTURE OF A STRATEGY

A NAB strategy must meet the following criteria for inclusion in the curriculum.

"A 'good reason' for creating art has two essential features: personal authenticity and telelogical design. The former refers to the individual's genuine need to express himself to another person, the latter to the awareness of societies conventional expectations about the functions art can perform." Edmund Feldman, Becoming Human Through Art
