The 3 C's: Collaborative Development and Sharing

New Art Basics maintains a variety of systems that allow Teacher/Researchers to share their successes, learn from each others experiences, and collectively build a program and curriculum that promotes the maximum in staff development through Collaborative Development and Sharing. It does this through:

Providing strategies written in a Common Format that will build your local art program. Searching through the NAB database, finding strategies that meet your students' needs and national, state, and local guidelines and standards, sharing your classroom testing results, and conceiving, designing, writing, and submitting new strategy ideas to the "Living Curriculum" database, contribute to a career long educational interchange with a large national group of professional art teachers.

Providing unique professional development materials in the NAB Clearinghouse. This NAB maintained resource, in the NAB Clearinghouse, contains for 2 week loan:

Providing opportunities to share experiences and gain new content knowledge. Twice a year inservice meetings on the Iowa State University campus allow teacher/researchers to meet face to face to share their successes in the classroom. Student art examples shared in these meetings are scanned and placed on the WWW "Living Curriculum" database, where all participants can share them.

As another part of these meetings ISU faculty and visiting scholars continue to give thought provoking slide lectures and presentations to assembled Teacher/Researchers. These presentations are videotaped and copies are made available for loan through the NAB Lending Library.

This Cooperative Empowerment Model empowers each Teacher/Researcher to share their experience and collectively help all other teachers in the project develop the best that is professional.
