Old Art Basics: Are they really basic?

Surveys of existing K-12 art curriculums have shown that most emphasize one or a combination of three common approaches:

1. Elements and Principles: Emphasis on formal aspects of art and design

2. Media Handling Skills: Focus on a variety of art materials and techniques

3. Creativity and Self Expression: Common concepts about art are proposed as a philosophic foundation for a variety of projects.
