This is where I stick stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere else. For now that is my past layouts, which are both documents and pictures so they didn't really fit in either one, and my flash movies. The movies could conceivably go in pics, but they aren't really pics, so I put them here. I'll probably make a section for them in the next layout.

Past Layouts:
The site title and index links will lead to an actual page that exists so you can see how the java and such worked and how it displays on your computer, and the screen link leads to a screenshot of the layout from my computer, which is obviously the way I mean it to look.

Parabolic Avenger (Screen)
Concept: Stop the page from looking like every other person who used the same template.

Notes: This is the first layout I used. It doesn't differ too greatly from the original template I got from blogger. I only used this layout on the Blog page and the first couple days I had the lists page. The Blog page served as the index.

A Monkey of a Different Color (Screen) -- Index (Screen)
Concept: I made a comment early on in the blog about making the page look unique. One of the random things I threw out was a bunch of multi-colored monkeys on a blue cactus..

Notes: This one was the first layout I made from scratch in Notepad. I thought it worked pretty well, although it underwent a lot of revisions. Still kind of rough though, not quite "finished".

Credits: I got the original monkeyhead and cactus from Microsoft's clip art gallery for MS Word. I then played with them in paint.

Face Front (screen) -- Face Front v.2 (screen) -- Face Front v.3 (screen) -- Index (screen)
Concept: We bought a new new computer and I was transferring some graphic files from the old one to the new one. One of the files I ran across was a dandy little smiley face that looked like it had just been punched. I thought it was cool and ran with it.

Notes: That front page was giving me crap all day I was working on it, and relatively large portions of the days I was touching it up. It just refused to stay in a Hexagonal shape while I stuck that text in the middle. If you wanna see something silly look at it's source code. Maybe I really should have used an image map. Sigh. Anyway, the first version was really much closer to what I wanted it to look like than the second, but I couldn't make it roll over and do the tricks I wanted it too. This is when I ran to CSS for help. The second version was the product. Then, I said to CSS, "When I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master." CSS responded, "Only a master of evil David." To which I replied, "Your powers are weak, old man." Finally CSS told me, "You can't win, David. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." Of course I did and he did and thus came about the format I stuck with, which is version one but with style sheets rather than tables and functionality rather than crack addiction.

Credits: I have no idea where I first found the face, but I doubt I drew it.

Lykanthrophobia (screen) -- Index (screen)
Concept: I'm not afraid of much at all. I used to be afraid of the dark and of heights, but now I just get nervous every once and a while when I'm high up. In fact, the only specific thing that I'm really scared of is werewolves. Right. Werewolves. Quit laughing at me.

Notes: This went extremely smoothly..until the inevitable happened. The top wouldn't work right and I had to fiddle around with it and then with the background so the werewolf's head wasn't clipped off for a full week. It didn't help the only time I could work on the images was during two hours at school when I had access to Photoshop 6. By the way, worship the CSS, for it is nifty.

Credits: All of the werewolf drawings I have used here have been modified by myself in Photoshop and used on the site without permission from the creator, Eric Elliott. They were found at templeofluna.com. Here are the originals: 1 2

The Eyes of Argus (screen) -- Index (screen)
Concept: When I was little I was very interested in Greek mythology. I still remember quite a bit of it, including an oft overlooked myth about the many-eyed Argus. Argus is supposed to have anywhere from 4 (two in front and two in back) to hundreds (all over his body) of eyes. Hera had him keep track of a cow named Io. Heremes was sent to get Io and he put Argus to sleep. Not only that, but he put him so to sleep that all of his eyes closed, unlike the usual half. So that's the painting, Hermes and Argus.

Notes: Overall this was a fairly smooth layout to design. I had some problems balancing file size with appearance, and I had a more real problem of trying to get the java at the top to function correctly. Other than that it's smooth sailing all the way.

Credits: The eye was drawn by my sister for this site. It's my eye. I got the painting used on the front page from a web site, but I neglected to write down who painted it. Now I'm having huge difficulties finding the painting again, so I don't really know who did it, but it was a long time ago so I dont' think copyright laws apply... The wrench is obviously one of Tool's symbols.

Exclamatory (screen) -- Index (screen)
Concept: Make a Flash layout similar to the working doodle on the back of my Economics folder.

Notes: When I actually bothered working on this one it went great. It was a little tedious making sure my pages passed the W3C's html validator in every way, but that's the price I pay for absurd dedication to perfection.

Credits: All me and Flash 5.

Movies
These require a Flash 5 or 6 player for viewing, depending on the movie. You can download the newest player from Macromedia. If a movie seems to be running kind of slow, one of four things might fix it: 1) change the movie quality to low, if it is not already set that way, 2) close other programs, including Ctrl+Alt+Del ones, 3) get a faster computer with more RAM, 4) something else.

Argh! - 3kb: Some circles moving around on a background changing colors. The big thing here is that this is the first time I was able to have multiple things changing colors at different rates. Before if I used the random color changing algorithm on 5 blocks, if one was blue they were all blue, and 5 seconds later they would all still be the same color as each other.

Arm O' Doom - 1kb: This is like spinotronicon, but much more random.

BG Twitch - 1kb: The background changes colors in a random manner, often looking a bit like it's twitching.

Bouncing Rectangles - 8kb: There's some rectangles, and they bounce, among other things.

Expand - 10kb: This yet another example of the beauty of mathematics. You can enter numbers into the fields to get different results. Try to keep spacing x copies under 500. Before you ask, I know why the spacing randomization does what it does, I just haven't won the argument with flash that it should do something else and I don't think I'm going to bother trying.

Face - 3kb: I have no explanation.

LineWave - 47kb: This was my pride and joy for a bit. The version on my computer has music with it, but that would have increased the file size considerably here. The song is Felt 2002 by Lemon Drop Kid if you're interested.

Spinitronicon - 2kb: Initially, there's some dots, then they begin spinning together and it looks rather cool.

Brain Cancer - 3kb: This is the result of Brad's suggestions concerning Trails.

I Love Liz - 3kb: I do. This is another reminder I made for her.

LineRotate - 1kb: Here's the new pride and joy. Not only that, but it takes up 1/47th of the space the old one did. I was thinking of getting some software to turn these movies into screensavers, but this one is making me consider it much more seriously.

Scatter - 1kb: I probably shouldn't tell you this, but this was integral in the creation of the background Scatter on the pics page.

Trails - 2kb: Mesmerizing my friend, mezmering. A blue circle travels all over the screen with a trail going out behind it, all the while changing size and shape. It does not loop. It will go on forever.

Twig - 1kb: This is in sort of a beta version. I would like to add an interface at the beginning similar to the one in Expand, I just haven't taken the time to do so. I should also place a limiter on the motion so it doesn't escape the screen, but that's not a big deal most of the time.

Gordon 1 - 4kb: This is simply Gordon walking.

Gordon 2 - 23kb: This is Gordon walking against a background.

Validation:
All pages I currently use (not necesarily past layouts) validate for HTML and CSS with W3C. css validated
