Post Title
I made a minor change to "Message to Harry Manback" in the Aenima lyrics. According to Pietro Nifosi' (some guy who sent me an e-mail, says he's Italian), at the end of the message the man is actually saying "sul serio", which means for real, rather than "su un aereo", which meant on a plane. Sounded reasonable, so I made the change.

New Situation
I'm in Ames now. Iowa State is providing me with free webhosting (obvious from the new address). This means the advertisements are gone. I'll be fixing the page up some to reflect the new surroundings, as well as removing some old stuff (the Liz references for one), over the coming days and weeks. I'll probably talk about myself in less uncertain terms a little more as well, as I was being purposefully vague before. This was to honor my mother's request that I remain anonymous while living in her house, wheras I don't care so much. More to come later.

Open Your Eyes
Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (good advice by the way) by A Fire Inside is now included on the lyrics page.

A Couple Things
First off, I did not have occasion to go to my car on Saturday. In fact, I didn't have occasion to do anything on Saturday. I slept for about 17 hours. I did however go out and get the stuff earlier, and I will begin work on it shortly. I should even have Thirteenth Step done before too long, as I have most of that complete.I fiddled with the lyrics pages and their style sheet a little bit. The comments should be a little easier to read now, and the multiple column areas will look a little better. 6.5.2004
Silly Me
I just realized I have yet to point at that we (Mike and I, not Brad, he's in Missouri) finally got to practice with Devin. We now have a song in a very "conceptual mode", one that is fairly well along, and another that we probably could have just recorded and threw onto a CD like it was. All three of these have lyrics. Lyrics Man! Now all we have to do is practice again. Good luck to us on that one. This practice I speak of is practically mythic in frequency at the moment. I have gone over to Devin's (I'm the only one with a car) to get them (Mike has been living with him for the moment) five times in the last week, and we've had one practice. Sleepy-heads. 6.5.2004
Shut Your Mouth
I did all of the lyrics for Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes by A Fire Inside just now, except for two songs. I couldn't do those two because there was some kind of foul up when I was ripping the songs to my computer, and the CD is out in my car. That's right. I would have to get up, UP, and walk, walk mind you, all the way up the stairs, stairs for goodness sake, to the, the outside! And that, my friends, is delaying a whole album of lyrics for a day.Hopefully I'll have occasion to go out to my car at some point Saturday, or this may just have to wait even longer. 6.3.2004
The Art of Drowning
I've finished the The Art of Drowning lyrics, and will have them in an HTML format and on the site pretty quick here. I went ahead and added snippets from those lyrics to the lyrics generator as well.

Random Lyrics
Okay, I put the thing on the page. I decided to go with just lyrics, it seemed to fit the site better. Maybe someday I'll put a random quote thing on the docs page or something. Some of the lyrics are a little long, but it seems to me that it fits in well. If anyone has a problem with the quotes, technical or otherwise, contact me please.

New Feature (Shiny)
I think I'm going to put a random quote thing on the top of this page. I'll try it out. The quotes will be of my own choosing, not from some far-off mysterious database out of my control. I don't know, it might be tacky, we'll see.

Lyrics
I'm almost done with the lyrics for The Art of Drowning by A Fire Inside. A couple of the songs are real bitches (see Wester or A Story at Three, but some of them are nice and easy (see The Nephilim or Smile). Should be up in another day or two.

The Show (angels sing)
This post has an alternate title of Everything That Can Go Wrong, Did Go Wrong. We got there. Over an hour away from my domicile. We had forgotten to bring the HUGE FRICKIN' extension cord from my house or the power strip. We managed to find replacements. Jon's HUGE FRICKIN' light we were going to use broke (shattered really) sometime between when he said we could use it and when he went to get it. We found a replacement. The plywood stage we had expected to find was not there. We found a replacement. The good mic mysteriously broke the day before the show. We used a crappy mic as a replacement. Neither Jon, Mike, Brad, nor myself were able to find more amps, which we desperately needed. Well... no replacement. Many of the people who were going to come didn't. No replacement. The weather was awful (there were actually a good number of tornados in the state, and we had a severe thunderstorm warning in our area all day). Not sure what need replacing there, but we were playing outdoors so... no replacement! (or something) Once we were set up and about ready to play I realized I had left my music at home (I don't memorize covers). No replacement. I called my sister and convinced her to come from home with the music. Took her a few hours. By the time the show started it was dark and pretty fucking windy. I had to clip my music to my stand, and some of still blew away in the middle of a song (we finished, but it wasn't perfect). Mike's 3rd (I think) string broke during one of the first few songs. He's fucking awesome though, so he didn't need a replacement, he just proceeded to play the next song (which has two 7-strings in the original version) with his one 5-string. However, mid-way through this song, it began to rain. Pour really. After 6 drops hit me I initiated the fastest tear down in the history of Iowa. The stuff (including a nearly fully disassembled drumset) was in the truck and covered within a minute. Of course, the real kicker is that during all of this the girl whose birthday it was was inside, not hearing the concert, becuase she was afraid of the storm. Criminy. 5.31.2004
Updates
I fixed up the Links and Docs pages a little bit. I deleted one or two links I never go to anymore. I changed a banner to a better one. I added a link. The strangest thing that has ever happened to me is now the day that Liz broke up with me. I haven't updated either of those lists for, oh, about 800 million billion years (or thereabouts).I think I might go ahead and get to work on lyrics for Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle. I would do some Deftones lyrics, but it doesn't really matter what he's saying anyway, so I don't think I'll bother. I might also throw some tabs I've written on the site, although I think I'll wait on putting any up for our stuff until we have played a show of original material. Speaking of which, I should probably comment on what happened at the show at my friends party. I'll put that in the next post, which you may or may not have read already. 5.31.2004
It's "Devin"
That's how you spell it. He got himself a job and an apartment (with free utilities and phone no less), so he now has a 10:00 curfew, making music a much more possible reality. We would start practicing as a full band this week (finally), except that Brad is off to Missouri to get a Red Card (that one is from Kansas, but it's a national thing) so he can fight fires in California this summer. He will be gone all week, so the incredible three-man band continues, but with different parts (Voltron style). However, Devin should be available for practice on a regular basis, he has been in a couple bands before (even put out some CDs apparently), has notebooks of songs and poetry sitting around, and is raring to go. I think we should be in good shape soon.In fairly unrelated news: One of my friends has decided to run off to St. Louis for the summer (which is about 7 hours from here). She is leaving on Friday and won't be back until late-August early-Septemberish. I questioned her reasons for this move. Apparently the town she lives in (a ways from the metropolitan center I make my home in, she's usually just here on the weekends) doesn't have any job oppurtunities for a girl of her age, so therefore she must go visit her brother in St. Louis to get employment. She couldn't possibly just come here (like she does frequently), stay at a friend's house (like she does frequently), and work here with all her friends. I don't know, whatever. I'm sure she must have her reasons, but neither man, beast, nor gods (nor women really for that matter) can understand the reasons of a woman. 5.13.2004
Our Stuff
Due to the number of requests I've received (more than 0, surprisingly, and less than 100, not surprisingly) to hear some of my band's stuff I thought I should make it clear that that is not, at this time, feasible. We do have a crude way of recording material onto my computer via a one microphone system that we have taken advantage of. However, the quality is so awful that we are only using it to sort of check on how we did playing together and to allow the guy currently penciled in at singer to practice when he can't attend practices. We could get a higher quality by piping each instrument directly to the computer and then mixing them, but that takes an amount of time and effort that we have not felt the need to dedicate yet. Besides, it's not like we have any lyrics. Y'know, no permanent singer and all? Mike has considered attempting to sing while playing guitar, and Brad and are are this | | close to just writing lyrics ourselves, or perhaps raiding Mike's book of original poetry. Either way, once we have something worth letting you hear I'll be sure to point it out. 5.9.2004
Band
Devin (still don't know if that's spelled right) is a very busy (no fingers, not busty) man. For instance, he is involved in a custody battle with the mother of his baby. And, he can't be out and about after 6 or the cops will be rather annoyed. Because of these things (not to mention a bout of vomiting one day) he has yet to attend a second practice. With this in mind we're exploring other options at singer, and we're trying to do it fast since we are supposed to be playing a show in less than two weeks. In semi-related news: Watch the movie Ravenous to learn more about Wendigos. Also, watch the movie Ravenous to be entertained. Surprisingly, after listening to the director's commentary on the deleted scenes I get the impression she doesn't think the movie is supposed to be funny. I guess it's her loss if she can't see the humor in a guy sitting on a sandbar nonchalantly chewing on a human body part (arm I think, don't get a real good look) like it's a chicken leg. 5.9.2004
Apostrophes
I noticed that, for some reason, many of the apostrophes on the Sing the Sorrow page were showing up as question marks. I think this has been fixed now, but if anybody notices this, or any other funny business, cropping up please mention it.

New Lyrics
I posted the APC and AFI lyrics. They seem to be in working order. I think everything is pretty good, except of course for the Renholder lyrics, but they're better than anyplace else I've seen.On a somewhat related, but not very, note: we're kicking Billy out of the band. He spends (at least) 90% of our practice time just cruising the internet looking at goth clothing (mostly women's) and piercings (including more than a few penises). We have a new singer lined up who seems to be a lot more interested in actually making music. His name is Devin. Or Devon. Or Deven. Or something. I'm not really sure how it's spelled at the moment, but I'll figure it out. 4.18.2004
Oh My Goodness!
I was taking a look at my site statistics just now. I was pleased to see that the lyrics pages had produced hundreds of hits in the last few months.I was blown away when I saw that the pics page has produced 10683 hits in the past few months. I was somewhat amused that 36.01% of the people finding my site with a search engine typed "facewound help". Not exactly what they were looking for I assume. Braincancer has also been fairly productive, producing about a thousand hits. People apparently find it when searching for info on braincancer. Once again, I'm guessing that wasn't what they were looking for. 4.18.2004
Lyrics
1) Apparently azlyrics.com is linking directly to my individual lyrics pages from their site. This is nice because of the traffic and all, but annoying because those pages weren't meant to be an entry point. Rather than go to the effort of persuading them to link a the main index I just went ahead and added navigation to the to of the lyrics pages, hopefully this will diver traffic to the other pages as well.2) The Mer de Noms by A Perfect Circle lyrics are complete and should be posted within the next few days. 3) The Sing the Sorrow by A Fire Inside lyrics are complete and should be posted within the next few days. 4) The Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings) lyrics were really difficult/annoying to get correct. I hope you appreciate it once they are up, and if anyone has any questions feel free to e-mail me. 4.18.2004
Updates
1) I fixed broken links on the Links page.2) Brad moved to bassist and Billy moved to vocals. Mike and I still rock the hizzouse on gee-tar and drums, respectively. 3) The band now has a name: Wendigo. The logo is below, I'm working on a flash movie for the logo which is pretty much done. However, I'm awaiting approval from the rest of the band. ![]() 4) We plan on playing a song of our own devising in an upcoming show that is basically Mike, Billy (on bass), and I going crazy while Brad does Arnie impersonations at appropriate moments. There should be moshing. 3.24.2004
Lyrics and Life
I've got a couple updates, both site related and me related.First, the site: 1) I updated the lyrics to H. (on Aenima) a little bit. This is due to the fact that I am now in a band that is performing this song and my singer noticed an error. 2) Mer de Noms by A Perfect Circle is still partly done, but now Sing the Sorrow by A Fire Inside (AFI) joins it in the "will hopefully be on the site at some time" pile. 3) I intend to make some updates around the site, for example in the lists in Docs and in the Links section, but I am busy at the moment, maybe tomorrow. Next, me: 1) On October 5, 2003 I proposed to Liz and she said yes. 2) On January 26, 2004 Liz changed her mind overnight (quite literally) and dumped me. Sunday: "I love you too, I love you so much, I'll see you tomorrow." Monday: "I don't think this is working, it's over." Apparently, contrary to what I learned in my nearly three years with Liz, all girls are insane. 3) I am now in a Band. I play the drums. We have not played a show yet, but we plan to have one come summer. We have enough cover songs ready at the moment, but we would like to have some original material ready as well, thus the delay. Name - As of yet Undetermined, Prime candidates: Thoughtful Urgency and Final Thought Singer - Brad Guitarist - Mike Bassist - Billy Drums - David 4) I will be attending Iowa State in the Fall on a full-ride scholarship including tuition, room, and board. | ||
