Application Guidelines
ISU's Council on International Programs
2000-2001 Internationalization/Globalization Grants


Deadline: April 5, 2000

Purpose

To fund efforts by ISU faculty members to develop and implement activities and programs that further the goal of infusing international perspectives into one or more of the learning, scholarship, and engagement efforts of ISU based on the values of increased understanding, partnership, and mutual respect. Study abroad programs, exchanges, foreign professional travel and conferences peripheral to the proposal, and support for international visitors and scholars will not be funded under this program. Applicants seeking funds for such activities are encouraged to review Other Sources of Funding at ISU for International Activities.

Amount and Number of Grants

$100,000 has been allocated for the grant program by the Provost. The Council on International Programs anticipates awarding 5 to 7 grants, with no single award larger than $20,000.

Eligibility

All faculty and P&S employees qualified to be principal investigators are eligible to serve as project director.

Use of Funds

The usual expenditures that occur under grants are acceptable, including salaries, student stipends, travel, supplies, etc. Equipment purchases are acceptable, but should not be a significant portion of the grant request and must be clearly justified. Grant funds must be expended during the 2000-2001 fiscal year. A mid-year status report will be due January 12, 2001 with the final reporting of activities due August 15, 2001. Both should be directed to Howard Shapiro, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs, 107 Beardshear.

Content of the Application

A title page as described in these guidelines. The text of the application, not to exceed 3 single-spaced pages, should describe the proposed activities/program, clearly indicating how the proposed activities/program meet the criteria listed below, stating the capabilities of the principal faculty members and staff members, and outlining a plan of work. A detailed budget and letter(s) from the person(s) authorized to commit the matching funds or cost-share should be appended to the text together with a two-page vitae of the principal participants. No other appendixes will be accepted.

Criteria

The Council will evaluate the grant applications according to the approximate weightings below:

    30% Potential impact on infusing international perspectives into the learning, scholarship, and engagement efforts of ISU.

    20% Interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, or inter-college nature of proposed activities/program.

    20% Innovative nature of proposed activities/program.

    20% Sustainability of activities/program beyond the period of the CIP grant.

    10% Matching funds and cost-share committed by proposer.

Deadline

Submit applications (original and 15 copies) through your DEO(s) to the appropriate Dean(s) by April 5 who will forward them to the Council on International Program, c/o Provost's Office, 107 Beardshear by 5:00 p.m., April 7, 2000. The Council will review the applications and make funding decisions by April 28, 2000. Project funds will be available July 1, 2000.
