Summer 2010
Energy-Efficient Design and Optimization of Wireline Access Networks
- Focused on energy efficient network planning on
fiber-copper access networks for emerging markets.
- Formulated the problem as an ILP problem and find
the optimal solution by AMPL.
- Designed a heuristic dynamic program algorithm and
presented comparison with the optimal solution.
NTT Network
Innovation Labs,
Yokosuka Japan, Research Engineer Intern
September 2009 ~ February 2010
Dynamic Resource Allocation in Virtual Networks
- Designed a reservation-based resource allocation
protocol such that the resource can be scheduled among multiple virtual
networks in real time.
- Proposed a game theoretic framework to optimize
the resource reservation of virtual networks based on real-time information
such that the overall system throughput is maximized while providing QoS
guaranteed services.
Greening of Future Networks
- Summarized the latest power-saving technologies
for future networks design and formed the research results as a tutorial.
Computer System Network,

Game Theoretic Framework in IEEE 802.16 Networks
- Designed utility functions for each scheduling
class defined in IEEE 802.16 standard to measure the QoS satisfaction of the
corresponding bandwidth reservation based on the real-time information
and network status.
- Proposed a game theoretic framework to help the
subscriber station determine the optimal bandwidth reservation such that the
overall system throughput is maximized.
Bandwidth Recycling in IEEE 802.16 Networks
- Designed the bandwidth recycling protocol to
recycle the unused bandwidth.
- Performed performance analysis for the proposed
protocol.
- Proposed three additional scheduling algorithms to
improve the performance of the proposed scheme.
A Comprehensive Analysis of Bandwidth Request Mechanisms in IEEE 802.16 Networks
-
Performed performance analysis of two
bandwidth request mechanisms (i.e. unicast polling and contention
resolution) in terms of bandwidth utilization and transmission delay.
-
Proposed two
performance objectives and designed scheduling algorithms based on the
performance analysis to achieve the performance objectives.
Analysis and Enhancement of Bandwidth Request
Strategies in IEEE 802.16 Networks
- Analyzed the traffic characteristics of two
traffic patterns: ON-OFF and Up-hill.
- Designed bandwidth request strategies to reduce
the operating overhead and data latency.

Wireless Video Transmission with Rate Adjustment
- Designed a real-time video broadcasting
application.
- Performed the automatic rate adjustment based on
the network status.
- Implemented and tested the application on a real
ad hoc network.
