External Funding Opportunities

External Faculty Fellowships, Stanford University
Since its inception in 1980, the Humanities Center at Stanford University has offered external fellowships to more than 550 faculty from nearly 100 universities in the United States and other countries. External fellows come from all ranks of the professoriate and from a wide variety of disciplinary fields, colleges and universities. The Center typically offers six to eight external fellowships each year.

Vanderbilt University has an excellent source for humanities and social science fellowship and grant opportunities, most of which are not restricted to Vanderbilt faculty.

The National Humanities Center offers 40 residential fellowships for advanced study in the humanities during the academic year, September 2008 through May 2009. Applicants must hold doctorate or equivalent scholarly credentials.

The Michigan Society of Fellows
Each year the Society selects four outstanding applicants for appointment to three-year fellowships in the social, physical and life sciences, and in the professional schools. In 2007, the Mellon Foundation awarded a grant to add three Mellon Fellows annually in the humanities, expanding the number of fellowships awarded each year from four to seven.
