Theme
Topics may include, to give a few examples, the effect of the emerging bio-economy on Iowa's people, towns, and land; imagining Iowa as a multicultural, global community; changes in industry in the state and its effect on Iowans; poverty in Iowa; architecture in Iowa, the virtual vs. technological landscape of Iowa, imagining Iowa's future, etc.

Judging Criteria
Submissions will be judged in terms of their aesthetic appeal, the richness of the interplay between photos and words, and the works effectiveness as social commentary. Judges will include students and faculty from the Greenlee School, College of Design, and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Submission Guidelines
Submissions should include 12 to 15 photographs, accompanied by no more than six pages of words (doubled-spaced in 12 point font). All photographs must be original. Computer editing programs may be used. The text (words) accompanying the photos may take a variety of forms, such as a photo essay, a photo story, a photo satire, or a photo fantasy. Entries must include one set of 8x10 or 8.5x11 prints and a total, with photos and text (words), of no more than 21 pages. Electronic entries will not be accepted. Students may submit only one entry either as individuals or as teams with the understanding that if a team wins, the $1000 prize must be shared.

Submissions are due at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009, the first day of spring semester, at 171 Carver. The winner will be announced in March 2009, and the winning entry will be displayed at the Memorial Union in Fall 2009.
