Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities

Grant Writing Assistance Pilot Program

If you are ISU faculty and would like assistance with writing an external grant application that supports an arts or humanities project, the CEAH is offering assistance on a first come, first serve basis beginning May 1, 2008, ending August 15, 2008.

Requests for assistance must be received by Monday, April 7, 2008. Simply send an email that identifies the grant, grant deadline and guidelines, and your summer timeline. Email requests may be sent to: snorvell@iastate.edu.

If the CEAH schedules your grant application for a written critique, a complete draft must be submitted at an agreed upon time. Consultants will provide a written critique of the narrative and budget, addressing such questions as the following*:

  • Does the grant meet grant guidelines, stay within page limits, answer all questions, follow the required format, etc.?

  • Is the grant clearly and persuasively written for its intended audience? For example, does the narrative avoid jargon and provide adequate details? Are the project goals clear and reasonable?

  • Is the budget detailed, reasonable, and accurate?

  • Is the project timeline reasonable?

  • *Note: The Center's grant writing consultants are willing to address specific questions or concerns other than those stated above, if they are stated in advance. If time allows, a consultant will read and critique revisions but will not provide final editing and proofing.

Funding for this pilot program has been generously provided by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. If faculty make good use of this service, it is likely to be continued in future years, primarily during the summer months.
