Administered by the Department of Human Development and
Family Studies. Leading to the degree bachelor of science. Total
credits required: 128
The curriculum in housing and the near environment focuses on housing
needs, issues, and trends, such as housing alternatives for families
and children; housing for the elderly and persons with disabilities;
housing finance, residential property management; and public policy.
Graduates of this curriculum are prepared for employment in the
housing industry, including housing-service organizations; public
and private (profit and not-for-profit) agencies; real estate and
lending institutions, housing management and administration; housing
equipment/ furnishings industries; housing counseling and housing
advocacy. A 15-credit minor in housing and the near environment
is available; the requirements appear under Human Development and
