Events
As Iowa State University implements the Resource Management Model,
there will be events related to training and expectations for changes in
culture. Please check back for times and locations for the newest events.
- Brown Bag Sessions
To provide time to discuss the implementation of the Resource Management
Model, a series of Brown Bag sessions was offered from September 2007 to
March 2008. Dates and topics are detailed
online.
- ISU Senior Leadership Retreat
A retreat for senior leaders was held on Oct. 10, 2007. Details are
available.
- President's Council Features Leader for Resource Management Model
Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Hoffman presented
information about the Resource Management Model to the President's Council
on Sept. 14, 2007. Her powerpoint presentation is
available.
- Software Vendor Presentations Lead to Decision
- The most up-to-date information on the data warehouse is available from
Information Technology Services in a monthly
status report.
- Iowa State University selected Cognos 8 Business Intelligence
Software for campus enterprise data, including the data warehouse. Details
are
available.
- The university community was invited to attend presentations by three
software vendors, who were proposing solutions to the RFP Iowa State
University issued seeking a Web-based querying, reporting, and presentation
tool for campus enterprise data, including the data warehouse. Additional
details, including dates, are
available.
- P&S Council Open Forums Feature Leaders for Resource Management
Model
The P&S Council offers a monthly Open Forum. The topic for the April
3 Open Forum was the ISU FY09 Budget led by Ellen Rasmussen,
Associate Vice President for Budgeting and Planning. Also, the
September and October speakers were leaders for the
Resource Management Model.
- Consultant
As mentioned in
Inside Iowa State, Iowa State has contracted with the
consulting firm BearingPoint to assess receptivity to change and recommend
strategies that will help ensure a smooth implementation process. Firm
representative David Maddox has expertise both in higher education budgeting
and in institutional change. As a starting point, during June and July, he
conducted focus groups and individual interviews to help assess receptivity
to change and recommend strategies that will help ensure a smooth
implementation process. He reported his findings in August in the
Stakeholder Analysis and Risk Assessment.
- Recommendations
- As working groups brought forward recommendations on
implementation issues, these were available for comment by the university
community. Once the recommendations were reviewed, the Executive Vice
President and Provost approved them. A total of 41 recommendations were
approved. These recommendations are available via a left-menu item
"Approved Recommendations."
News
- David Maddox of BearingPoint, Inc. submitted his
Feedback from Advisory Committee Participants report. This report
reviews the role of the advisory committees and summarizes feedback from
participants.
- David Maddox of BearingPoint, Inc. submitted his
Stakeholder Follow-up Report. This mid-course review
of the implementation process is based on meetings and interviews in
February 2008 with some of the groups and individuals who participated in
the meetings and interviews in Summer 2007 that were the basis for the
consultant's original
Stakeholder Analysis and Risk Assessment.
- David Maddox of BearingPoint, Inc. completed a report on
Resource Management Model and institutional planning processes.
The report provides an overview of current planning efforts and offers
observations and recommendations for change that would better serve
the Resource Management Model.
- A monthly update is available to highlight the status of the
implementation of the Resource Management Model. These were e-mailed to
Iowa State University leaders and administrators:
- Monthly progress reports to the Provost Academic Cabinet
on the implementation of the Resource Management Model are in the
left-menu item
Project Status Reports.
The final report was posted in
July.
- BearingPoint's David Maddox submitted his
Stakeholder Analysis and Risk Assessment
report on August 16, 2007 that focused on both the
organizational strengths ISU brings to the
implementation process and the concerns raised by the stakeholder groups.
The concerns were translated into a number of key risks, to which a series
of recommendations were developed to respond to the concerns.
- The university community stays informed via its newspaper Inside Iowa
State. The following items on the implementation of the Resource Management
Model were in the staff paper.

Updates
- The decision log for the implementation issues on
the Resource Management Model is available
online. During the implementation year, the decision was updated
regularly to show the status of issues related to
the implementation of the Resource Management Model. With the completion of
the recommendation approval process, the decision log is finished.
