Creosote Plain

Photos of this habitat 1 2 3 4

Plains with so little subsoil moisture that nothing else will grow, still support creosote bushes (Larrea tridentata), spaced to most efficiently use the little rain that falls. In this environment, creosote bushes grow extremely slowly—some of the bush clones have been estimated to be thousands of years old.
