Summary Exercise

One very important skill that will be used throughout your life is the ability to summarize information. If asked about the last movie you saw, you would probably summarize what it was about. If your boss or a co-worker asked about a meeting or phone conversation, you would summarize the information. This activity is designed to give you practice in summary.

First, read through your copy of the summary information handout: Summarizing What Someone Else Said. Next, find a partner to interview (some possible questions are listed below). You will have 2 minutes. Listen carefully to what your partner says and after talking to your partner, write a 2-3 sentence summary of what was talked about. Then, create a visual that represents what your partner or what your partner talked about.
