How to drive

Had Dave heeded his roommates warning before he decided to drive in the winter conditions, he could have prevented himself from ending up in a ditch. “I tried to use my wipers, but they were frozen to the windshield. My visibility was limited and I lost control and crashed into a ditch. There was so much ice on the road, I should have been driving slower…”

Every time you get behind the wheel, the risk is ten times greater when driving in winter weather. Preparing your vehicle for the winter season and knowing how to react if stranded or lost on the road are important factors to safe winter driving. Use common sense when venturing out on wintry roads. Do not overestimate your ability or your vehicle's ability overcome bad driving conditions. Traveling at high speeds on wet or slick roads can cause your vehicle to lose contact with the road.
