ON THE SIZE OF THE ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY ANOMALY AT THE NEEL TRANSITION OF DILUTE Cr-Al ALLOYS

Abstract

An attempt has been made to resolve the question of the non-observation of characteristic anomalies in the electrical resistivity (p) corresponding to the Neel temperature of CrAl alloys in the intermediate concentration range. p-T studies are reported for the first time, on single-crystal samples containing 0.23, 0.52, 1.02, 1.41, 1.91, 2.99 and 4.53 at.% Al. Anomalies in p are observed in the region of TsubN for all these alloys although the size of the anomaly is small in the case of Cr-1.91 at.% Al and Cr-2.99 at.% Al. Comments are made on the nature of the magnetic phase appearing below TsubN, as a function of the rise in Al content, in the light of the infrared reflectivity data reported earlier on these samples.
